Mark, who checked us in, was very knowledgeable about the hotel. He spent a lot of time explaining the history of the hotel, how parking works, and where the best places to eat are He made us feel very welcomed. Unfortunately, the room was very disappointing. I kind of expected a small room, but I wasn't ready for the bathroom. The tub and sink were lavender in color and had a lot of soap scum stains. The tub also had some stains from rust and mineral deposits where the tub faucet leaked. It looked pretty gross. The sink has some rust stains around the drain as well. There were also cracks between the tiles in the shower area. Neither one of us wanted to take a shower in it. Later, to see if the tub was even draining properly, i tried to run some water. The control knob was very hard to turn. I could only get a trickle of water to come out. Being the shoulder season, I couldn't imagine why they would put us in a room this bad with most rooms empty. We did look around the hotel common areas at the many artifacts that the owner had collected. They were all very interesting. And the lobby area was historic and interesting. But we just didn't feel comfortable in our room. We could have asked to change rooms, but again, why would they put us in this one if there were better ones in an almost empty hotel? So we decided to leave after staying one night. The staff at the front desk had a hard time figuring out how to refund us for the second night that we pre-paid for but didn't use. After several minutes and a couple of phone calls, they might have figured it out. But i won't know for sure until I check my account in a day or 2. We wanted to like this place. I understand that the owner owns multiple hotels. So I can't understand why someone with deep pockets wouldn't want to get the guest rooms in good condition as a priority.

Location is ideal if you are a tourist, but we had a ton of issues regarding the cleanliness of the rooms. If it weren’t for the cleanliness issues, we would have had a perfect stay. But the cleanliness issues made our stay very uncomfortable. When we first checked in, they put us in room 320. There were hairs on the pillows and bedspread so we told the front desk, and they moved us to room 520. In 520, the bed looked cleaner but there were hairs in the tub, pee splatters on the toilet seat, and one of the hand towels was dirty. We put the dirty hand towel on the ground because we didn’t want to use it. Before we left for dinner that night, we told the front desk about the issues in the new room, and they told us that they would have housekeeping clean the bathroom/sink area while we were out at dinner. When we returned from dinner, we were told that they had cleaned the room up for us. When we got back to the room, we saw that the pee splatters had been wiped off the toilet seat; however, there was still hair in the tub AND they had hung the dirty towel that we had placed on the ground back up on the towel rack….at this point, it was later in the evening and I didn’t feel like going back to the front desk and potentially moving all of our stuff to a THIRD ROOM. So we decided to just get through the night, go to sleep, and try to get compensation in the morning for all of the issues we have had. In addition to The cleaning issues, we also couldnt use the TV in our room. When I was checking out in the morning (on Saturday), I told a new front desk person about all the issues we had the day before. I was told that I had to call back on Monday or Tuesday, when the manager would be in, to see if I could get refunded for any or all of my stay. I was charged full price for the room and they apologized for the issues, but told me that they couldn’t do anything because the manager wasn’t in. It’s a shame because the hotel is beautiful and historic, but the rooms dont appear to be cleaned regularly or at all. We did not tip the housekeeping staff for the first time ever because the room was not clean. Like I said, if it weren’t for the cleaning issues, the stay would have been fine. But the cleaning issues made for a very uncomfortable stay. The fact that we were charged full price for a very uncomfortable stay was extremely infuriating on top of everything else.

Booked the Historic Plains as it was the only option in the centre of Cheyenne for a last minute trip. It certainly delivered on location. Things didn't start well as the afternoon of my arrival I was sent an email saying my reservation had been cancelled as per my request. I replied to say I hadn't cancelled and was sent another generic booking confirmation. On arrival, things looked up. The young guy working the front desk at night was welcoming and friendly and the lobby is certainly impressive. Upstairs, the outlook was less positive. The corridors were drab and dreary and my room, the door to which was propped open, was like something out of the arc. Historic is not the word, dated doesn't cut it. It was tiny, cold and unloved. The ac/heating unit belonged in an antique shop and sounded like an industrial generator. The temperature was either freezing cold or boiling hot. The bed, without a proper duvet, had sheets like sandpaper and the springs from the mattress stabbed me in the back whatever position I tried to adopt. The only plug socket was hanging off the wall, there were blood stains on the carpet, the towels and flannels were stained and the taps didn't work. The bath and sink had years of stains and grime and, for the first time in my life, I decided I'd be cleaner without showering in the morning. Every time the person in the room above moved it sounded like they were going to come through the floor, and the elevator call button gave me an electric shock every time. It's such a shame to see a historic property so neglected- it could be such a great hotel in the right hands. Sadly, it's in the wrong hands and appears to have been for some decades. Basil Fawlty would do a better job. Please, please heed the advice and stay far far away from this hovel!

Not very clean, but in a great location. I would strongly advise against staying here if you're a single woman. General manager (who is married) aggressively pursues women and doesn't take no for an answer. Recently had several female employees quit because of his behavior.

This hotel is disgusting. Pictures on line look absolutely nothing like real life. They must’ve been taken in the early 90’s when it was remodeled and hasn’t been deep cleaned since. They charged my card an extra $200 cleaning fee because my room ā€œsmelled like smokeā€. The entire hotel smelled like an ashtray straight out of a dive bar. Avoid at all costs. You’re better off sleeping in your car. I’ve tent camped with better accommodations.
