Allergy alert! Berry allergy. The breakfast dining room was quiet so I could hear our wonderful hostess educate the kitchen staff TWICE no red berries! None of that! Raspberries will send me to the hospital. 20 minutes after bringing my family’s to-go order back to our room and digging in, the dining room called to warn me the two condiment containers were raspberry jam! Fortunately, I know to stay away from red, otherwise it would have been way too late. Also, terrible shower. Time for a new shower head and a full door so water stays put. All that said, still giving four stars: --All staff were super helpful and super nice to talk to. --RJ in the dining room, and his fiancé whose name I didn’t get, were both just amazing. They deserve raises and promotions. RJ’s meal suggestions were spot on. --Whoever the chef was the night of Friday 4/11 makes some of the best pasta I’ve ever tasted. The cheeseburger the night before was also delicious. And that thyme ice cream was amazing. All RJ suggestions. --We are beginner level hikers. Whoever marked the trails and created the legend also needs a raise and a promotion. The lakeview trail was perfect for us, so easy to follow and amazing views. --The property was just beautiful and clearly well cared for. --Finally, the communication throughout was impressive. It was the off season, we knew what we were getting into, and loved every minute. Perfect time to go, it was like we had the place to ourselves even though we didn’t!

This might be the worst outdated room I've ever stayed in. It was like stepping back in time (it even had a CD player in the room and piped music). The furniture was threadbare. The room was dingy. The shower was dirty and the showerhead was over 30 years old and never been cleaned. The hotel has so much potential due to it's beaufiful surroundings, but it is SO let down by poor inferior, motel style rooms. It is comedy that they refer to the hotel as Luxury at the edge of the wilderness.

Great resort! Our first time at Sun Mountain after wanting to come for quite some time. Wonderful staff, good food, beautiful setting. We travel a lot and stay in some very nice places and wow- I cannot understand the negative reviews. We stayed in the cabins and they were so cute! Well appointed and had everything we needed. Our dogs loved walking along the well groomed paths and the lighting at night along the pathways was very nice. Dining room food was great. We all had the filet. Burgers in the bar were very good. The man who helped us get set up for X-country skiing was so nice and helpful. He gave us a map and suggested a beginner loop. We all had so much fun that we decided to try more intermediate trails and skied all day. We loved watching the ice fishermen from our cabin porch. They were all catching a lot of fish. Will definitely be back next year and maybe over the summer.

We have been coming to Patterson cabins at Sun Mountain Lodge for 10 years. Since the new owners took over, quality has dropped, and prices have skyrocketed. We were so disappointed last year with broken heaters, dirty and tired uncomfortable furniture, and useless pots/pans/knives I contacted the manager. He said they were going to renovate all the cabins this year and possibly add hot tubs. Well, that did not happen and they are the same old worn cabins w broken fan control, bathroom fan that vibrates the whole cabin and dysfunction poorly equipped kitchen w no storage and dirty food crumbs in various corners. So not worth the excessive prices they are charging and so not “luxury” as they are marketed.

The facility is in a wonderful remote spot with outstanding views of mountains on all sides. There are loads of activities available for the family- horses, swimming, hiking, and an indoor game room for kids. The restaurant was very good, again with the views being the best part of the meal. Our stay was hampered only by lots of smoke in the air from nearby fires which made swimming not so great and horse back riding out of the question.
