Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center

Location could not be better. loads of restaurants and tasting rooms within 3 blocks of the hotel. Parking was easy in nice surface lot. Room 204 was not in the historic building but in the west wing annex on the second floor. The room was spacious and comfortable with a king sized bed. The 4 pillows were very small. We found the $25 per day "resort fee" to be a dishonest attempt to disguise normally included amenities as extra costs. The $15 per day coupon for the Marc restaurant was no consolation because the restaurant gets poor reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor, so we did not use it. Suck it up and raise the price. The bathroom was adequate but small. The tub lacked any grab bars, important to people in their 80s. The toilet was so low, it would have been comfortable for a 5 year old. The desk chair was not an office chair and was much too low for the desk. There were 2 kinds of USB and one power ports on the desk lamp. Finally, there were no luggage stands provided for our suitcases. In spite of these shortcomings, it was a comfortable stay but we expect more for $188 a day including tax.

The hotel is quite lovely and has 4 different wine tasing sites. The restaurant and bar are quite nice as well., On the down side - the front desk staff was fairly inconsistent. They were either super friendly and helpful and on other days, not so much. When the friendly help staff were helpful - they were excellent. On other days and times, some other front desk staff were dismissive, unapologetic, impatient and cold. One amazing surprise was a piano player, Steven, who quite remarkable. I felt like I was at a concert. A very talented and gifted pianist. He played in the evening on Friday and Saturday during my stay. It was definitely an unexpected delight! Food in the restaurant is quite good.

Stayed here on business. Beautiful historic hotel with a large lobby. My room was in the newer wing. Room was very clean and the bed comfortable, although the bathroom was tiny. All staff at this hotel are extremely friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant on site, but surprisingly they are not open for lunch. Would definitely stay here again.

Great experience staying in the tower for a weekend getaway. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived (it was a few hours before check in), and they graciously stored our luggage and put it in our room for us before we returned to check in. Service and our room were great. Our room had lotions and cleansers in refillable containers, fluffy bathrobes, and even a black washcloth for removing makeup.

Everything about our stay was wonderful, but what really impressed was the staff who were all friendly, smiling, helpful, and had wonderful personalities!
