Look, this is not a 4-star luxury hotel. You donât come here for a contemporary furnished room or modern conveniences. Youâre not in the big city or overpriced resort. Itâs located off the Blue Ridge Parkway offering you a comfortable place to sleep after a day of hiking, scenic driving, etc. We were in our room simply to rest and sleep. The bed was clean and comfortable. Thereâs been some upgrades to the bathroom, a new tub and a nice, powerful shower which is a priority for me. All units have a back door with outside seating on your porch making it easy to enjoy the view of the lake, trees, and mountains. Itâs beautiful and relaxing especially with a good book and a better wine. Stop complaining about the non-smart TV reception and the poor Internet connection. Take a walk around the lake instead. Lower your expectations for the restaurant though we found the breakfast and dinner more than sufficient. We were visiting right after Labor Day so the hotel wasnât too busy. But we were greeted by two waitresses and the service and food quickly followed. A lovely view while enjoying our meals. Weâve been here twice and really enjoy the quietness and the natural beauty.

Such a lovely setting in the mountains! It isn't a 5-star resort, but it is clean, staff are friendly, and why would you need fancy amenities with the Blue Ridge Parkway just steps away? The views from the rooms of the lake are fabulous. A beautiful, quiet getaway.

Look, this is not a 4-star luxury hotel. You don't come here for contemporary furnished room or modern conveniences. You're not in the big city or an over-developed suburb. It's off the Blue Ridge Parkway which offers plenty of hiking, scenic driving, small-town visits, etc. We were in our room simply to rest and sleep. The bed was comfortable and you can tell there's been some recent upgrades in our bathroom. New tub and a nice, powerful shower which is a priority. All the units have a backdoor with seating on your porch or balcony overlooking a lake and mountains. It's beautiful and relaxing especially with a good book and a better wine. Stop complaining about the TV reception and the poor Internet connection. Take a walk instead. Lower your expectations for the restaurant, too, though we found breakfast and dinner more than sufficient. We were there right after Labor Day but well before the leaves change, so the hotel was not too busy. Still, there were two waitresses ready to greet customers immediately. And the view is fantastic. We've been here twice and really enjoy the quietness and the natural beauty.

My wife had planned this trip for two years after canceling last year due to health issues. We had reserved a king bedroom and given one under the ba the main building. We heard noise most of the evening from the bar patrons moving chairs and tables. There was a hole in the bathroom and we found ants in the room upon leaving that had gotten into her purse on the coffee table. The restaurant food was very good and the service was wonderful. It is a scenic property but we wouldn't stay there again. Very disappointed!!!

I would not recommend if youâre looking for something mid or up scale. The lodge is nice and the lounge is cozy, but the rooms are quite bleak. I donât mind dated, I mind when I donât even want to touch anything. The beds were better than expected. I debated even staying once I walked in bc it was sticky and unclean. On my third night I woke to mice in my medication and snacks. Very unpleasant. I went to the lodge to ask for a different room and she said Iâd need to wait until someone else came in. I sat in the lobby waiting, directly in front of her for 30 minutes while she chatted about the weather with a coworker. I had to ask again what the plan was and she then finally mentioned to the guy next to her I might need a diff room. I understand the place is in nature and there are critters, but the indifference of the gal at the front desk was disheartening. The restaurant was unexpectedly good and of course the views are lovely. I would not stay again. The prices they charge for the rooms in no way measure up. I stayed at a best western for $80 on the way here and it was exponentially better then the $200/night I paid for the Otter lodge. Such a disappointment.
