The Grand America Hotel

I've had two wedding in the last 2 years. My son got married at Grand America and my daughter got married at Hilton Salt lake City. They are not too far away from each others. I would give Hilton Salt Lake City a 5 Stars review. They were very willing to work with you. Grand America anything we request or ask for it was a No 90 percent of the time. They didn't even have a taste day of their food for the wedding receptions. Hilton they had a day that we would go in and they would display the menu we wanted to have at the wedding and we got to taste it before making our final selection. This gives us an idea before we made a decision on which option to pick for the food. We asked Grand American if we can see the menu and how it would be displayed on the plates they told us that they do not do that. or we would have to pay $65 plus tax per plates. So if we were trying to make a decision on two options we would have to pay over $135 per plate per person. It was unbelievable. So we had to make a choice blind folded and when they served us the food, it was a terrible choice. Chicken came in bone and was very dry. Nothing we can do on that day because everything was already too late. We had approx. 450-500 guest which was over a $125 per person after we calculated the total we paid. Also at Hilton, food was so good. Price was more than $15K at Grand America. At Hilton we had beef, shrimp and chicken and still way cheaper than Grand America. We had chicken at Grand America and I think it was way over prices. They don't have much time for you to decorate. Hilton, if the night before was available they would allow you to go in and decorate. Not Grand America they only give you a few hours. Also at Hilton, if you pay more than $15K than they give you the ball room for free and you just pay for the food. So, if you're planning a wedding, work conference or any other event please look into Hilton Salt Lake City Hotel as well. Their food, and service is exceptional. It is also a very beautiful hotel. The size of the ballroom is not that much different or exactly the same. Hilton is more square, Grand American is long which I like the square better for set up and program. It is almost a year now I finally have time to write a review about my experience at Grand America vs Hilton Salt Lake City.

If you want to sleep this is not the place. The rooms that face the road are so noisy. There is no sound proofing and you are right next to the transit train tracks. It’s like trying to sleep on the tracks. The only quiet time is from about midnight to 430am and then the train and traffic start up again.

We stayed at the Grand America because it is central to all the ski resorts we planned to ski near SLC. Beautiful grand hotel with comfortable stylish rooms. We had an executive suite with kitchen so we felt like we were at home. Kitchen could use a few important items-bring your own prep knife & cutting board! Housekeeping was great with refreshing the room daily. Unfortunately, we coukd not communicate with them, even writing in Spanish, to supply regular coffee instead of decaf. Loved the elegant hot tub & indoor pool. Had great massages at the spa. There is no better place to stay for a ski trip to Utah!

I am a discerning traveler who can point out the flaws in most travel experiences but not so with the Grand America Hotel. This hotel and its staff are quite literally perfect. Every detail is planned for and executed perfectly. Thirsty? There is cold water in the lobby, coffee in the morning and always at least one bar open. The staff is delightful and the rooms are beautiful. If you get the chance, stay here.

Spent 4 nights at this classic, full service downtown hotel in SLC. Checked all the boxes: Had all the facilities one would want. Service was uniformly excellent. Location was perfectly central-close to everything including the airport. Laurel the breakfast cafe offered a great breakfast. The room was large and clean with a nice bathroom. Valet parking was fast and efficient. If I had to stretch to say something “constructive”, I’d say the decor is a little old-fashioned, with wallpaper and not so contemporary design. But really that was not a bother at all. It’s not a hip hotel but just a really classically nice one. I would go back.
