Interesting arrangement upon arrival; the front desk staff seemingly lock themselves in their office, and communicate to patrons through a window like in a high security bank. Not sure about you, but this generally gives me the impression that: A. This place is potentially "unsafe", and B. As my uncle always said, you get what you pay for. The room was, thankfully, nice. It was clean. There were no odors. Apart from some obnoxiously loud music that was played by our neighbor at 7pm for about 10 minutes (who, thankfully, stopped playing it after he realized he had neighbors too), we had no major issues. For some reason, a bizarre plastic covering made the mattress uncomfortable, and the pillows were lousy, but hey, this is an Econo Lodge, and I am on an "econo budget". The shower worked well (thought I'd point that out....was going to make a droll remark, but I couldn't really have a decent conversation through a plate-glass window. This motel was not "unsafe". The manager on duty who likes to lock himself in his office politely informed me they did not serve breakfast, and that was fine with me, as I pondered the precise location where such a meal would be served (in his office?) With Buc-ees just a couple of exits down the highway, that did not bother us, as we just needed to stay at this place for the night, and then leave in the morning.

We made a reservation in December for April 7-9 to enjoy the Solar Eclipse. Flew into Dallas from Portland, drove to Temple, and was told they had overbooked so they had NO ROOM for us. My wife was livid. Avoid this place. Avoid all Choice Hotel Group properties. This is the parent company. We were lucky to find a nearby room for TWICE the price. The front desk told us it was probably good luck because the Temple Econo Lodge is notorious for bed bugs. I plan to file a complaint with the State Attorney General regarding our treatment by Choice Hotel Group.

My room was in very poor condtion with a creaking floor, worn out saggy mattresses and generally in need of attention. On arrival the car park was almost totally full with workers pick-up's (which obviously indicates the bulk of the clientele) Oh...and the ice machine was broken!

I was skeptical at first with the location but it surprised me. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The beds were comfortable, the ac worked really well for it being 100+ degrees the whole time we were there. We didn't hear any of the highway traffic. There are food options close and a convenience store. For it being such an old motel, it's well taken care of. The kids enjoyed the pool that's open until midnight every night. It was clean and maintained. A few of the guests looked iffy but that's anywhere you go. But we didn't have any issues with anyone. The price is perfect for what we needed and the rooms were better than most at that price. I will definitely stay here whenever I come down to visit my hometown of Belton.

If it hadn't been so late we would have found another hotel. I do not recommend this hotel. Non smoking room had definitely been smoked in. Pet scratches on bathroom door. Missing upper door lock. I didn't get a picture but the pool was not working. It was drained and nasty looking. Stained and ill-fitting sheets and mattress pad. Drug activity on premises.
