Candlewood Suites Smyrna Nashville an IHG Hotel

I've spent at least one night per week in a hotel for years (lots of IHG hotels) and this is WITHOUT question the WORST hotel experience I've ever had. The room was filthy, complete with a giant blood stain on the sofa bed mattress and cover and - a nice little cock roach infestation. I had two nights booked but when I voiced my complaints the hotel manager comped the first night and let me out of my "non-refundable" rate for night two and we got the heck out of dodge!

This was not what we expect from IHG hotels. We arrived after 9pm and had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to greet us at the front desk. The staff member finally appeared and then apologized for how exhausted she was and sat and rolled around in her chair - too tired to stand. Once in our room, we found a very warm and stale-smelling room with a dead roach on the bathroom floor. The bathtub was old and coming apart from the wall. No glass shower doors as the photos show. The next morning we noticed a large trash bag next to the elevator outside of the trash can. The elevator was crummy- in need of sweeping. No breakfast or coffee or water was provided. On our walk to the car, we noticed the planters had dead plants and weeds and the pool was drained and plaster was falling off the sides. This was the only IHG hotel with availability in the Nashville area- now we know why. (Taylor Swift in town and college graduation)

Kitchen facility of room filthy. All areas behind furniture and moldings had thick dust. Rear of toilet bowel… I have photos and video. Staff not knowledgeable in making coffee, needed guidance and assistance from a customer. Though complimentary popcorn was offered, when it ran out, I politely asked if the employee could make some more. Her response? “I don’t feel like it,” it wasn’t the popcorn, but the attitude? Though my concerns and disappointments were brought to the attention of the front desk, District Manager and their main office, all fell on deaf ears. Since I frequent Tennessee for business and personal travel, I will not be returning to any Candlewood Hotels or their affiliates. My friends and family have already been advised. Though I will say the neighborhood was very nice and the other guests were equally nice.

This is my second Candlewood suites stay… same problem old renovated building with a guest laundry which has 4 washing machines but only one works. I really think IHG is trying to phase out the Candlewood brand… with good reason. I was trying to do a monthly stay… they wanted to charge me 84 per night!! Nope I don’t think so…

Candlewood Suites in Smyrna is the same sort of run of the mill, cookie cutter hotel that populates every interstate exit ramp. Little imagination, no views, no character, just a utilitarian box. Nonetheless the room was clean and bed was comfortable. Plenty of electrical outlets spread across the room to charge devices. Kitchenette includes full size refrigerator, sink, two burner stove, coffee maker and microwave. Plates, cups, mugs and utensils are supplied as well as pots & pans to cook with and Tupperware type containers to store leftovers. Amenities include a 24 hour exercise room, a gazebo with grill and small swimming pool. Might be a cookie cutter, but the hotel was clean, quiet and serviceable.
