Caption BY Hyatt Beale Street Memphis

The hotel is nice enough, but the caption rooms may as well be shoddy dorms. There were dirty socks left in my room upon my arrival. And I was asked to pay a $20 fee for an early check in after requesting one online and not being warned about the fee. I enjoyed having access to ice and water to fill my water bottle, and the gym facilities were nice. There was also a beautiful view from the rooftop bar in the evening. Overall I would suggest finding somewhere else to stay in Memphis if you can. It wasn’t awful but for a nicer hotel chain like Hyatt this place was a let down.

This and the Hyatt Centric are really one hotel. The Caption is an old warehouse next door which has been converted to a hotel and connects directly through a corridor to the Centric main reception. We had a lovely room overlooking the Mississippi River with one large double bed and a bathroom with walk in shower. There was also a fridge and safe in the room. The reception were very helpful upon check in and enabled early check in for a fee of $50. The rooftop bar, Beck&Call, was nice. Great views over the river and delicious cocktails. The only negative was that the pool was not open during our stay which would have been nice, as the weather was quite hot. I think they were doing some renovations to it. This is why I gave it a 4. Otherwise it was a great stay.

Overall poor customer service. Staff weren’t overly friendly or welcoming when we arrived or interacted with them. When we had issues (broken air con, not enough towels) they were not quick to resolve. We had to chase up. Pool was closed for cleaning, no apology, broken pool loungers. Breakfast was very slow (although nice food), rooftop bar closed on the nights we stayed. And the room was small for us and our 9 year old compared to every other hotel we stayed at. Hilton is far friendlier, better service and better quality. We travel a lot and I would not rush back to a Hyatt.

We are Hyatt members so tried the Caption while visiting Memphis for the 1st time. It’s attached to Hyatt Centric which is a full service property (restaurant, pool). The location to Beale street is great and very nice walk to the Civil Rights Museum & Central BBQ. Great view of the MS river & we enjoyed the rooftop bar at the Centric. The caption is minimalist (no drawers, closet is open & on the side, awkward) & service was spotty. Breakfast options are limited & had to wait at the bar just for hot water for my tea. Room had a refrigerator, no coffeemaker & found a microwave in lobby. Parking garage right across the street so much cheaper (no in & out but city is very walkable - trolleys were not running. Overall I would stay for the great location again, but maybe next door at centric instead.

This hotel was a dream in Memphis. Sunlit and new construction, beautiful common areas with art, great breakfasts - very high end choices, my room was divine. I had a balcony over looking the river, very spacious, and I could even see the view from the shower in the morning. Well designed layout. Hotel staff was also very nice and accommodating. 5 star experience.
