Hampton Inn Harrisburg Grantville Hershey

We had stayed in Harrisburg for 2 nights and decided we would stay an extra night to go to the Casino near Hershey, so I booked a closer hotel, and we moved to the Hampton Inn in Grantville. We had to check out of our other hotel at 11:00 am and were only 25 minutes away from this one so we got there a little before noon and asked for an early check in. Mind you, I travel frequently and I have never had trouble or had to pay for early check in anywhere else if there is a clean room available and it isn't busy. This is not the case at this cheap hotel. There were about 4 cars in the parking lot and a room was ready, but the girl at the desk said that we couldn't check in until after 2:00 but could put our bags behind the desk. I explained that we were traveling with food and would just like to get a room to put it in the fridge and get our luggage safely put away as we were going out. Finally, she said she could give us a room but there would be a $50.00 charge!! Mind you, we are 2 older women (71 & 62) and we weren't checking in early to have a party, we just wanted to put our food away so it wouldn't spoil and then we were going out anyway. She apologized, but said "it was policy." I said it is a poor policy and all other hotel's and AirBnb's have always been very accommodating with no extra charge (like the Staybridge we stayed at the 2 previous nights, where they let us in at 11:00) but she said it was their owner's policy. I reluctantly agreed to pay, but this immediately started our stay at this Hampton Inn on a sour note. We opened our door to a 2 queen room that was small and poorly lit with a toilet that wouldn't flush unless you pushed the handle down twice. I was still upset with our check in experience, but we put our food away and went to the winery and Casino. When we got back around 4:00, there a man at the desk so I approached him with my shock and annoyance at being charged $50.00 (the room rate itself was only $103.00) for an early check in. He gave me the same policy garbage but unlike the girl when we got there, he was rude and very unapologetic. After staying at a great hotel in Harrisburg and having a wonderful time there, this hotel experience ruined the last day of our trip. I would never stay there again!!

Booked thru app, arrived to be told our smoke free room had been smoked in. They had “ cleaned” it, go see if it’s okay😳 Room smells of deodorizer. Return to desk, sorry no more king rooms. You can have a queen room for the same price🤪 Sign says 100% Hampton guarantee of happiness. I’m not happy, don’t book here if you have high expectations

Very clean hotel with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was also good with decent variety. Unfortunately, we seemed to have really bad luck in other aspects of our short stay. Our bathroom was basically rendered unusable. The shower water only had one temperature: scalding hot. The toilet would often not flush, so we had to find the hall bathroom to use. Our refrigerator didn’t get cold, so we couldn’t use that either. It was only for one night, but if we’d had to stay longer we would’ve asked for a different room. We’ve stayed at a lot of great hotels in the area with no issues, so we probably won’t return here.

The stay was just okay. To me, the most imprtant things are cleanliness and a comfortable bed. The hotel was super clean, but the bed was rock hard. After two nights on a rock hard bed, my body aches. Other than that, no complaints. Very convenient location. Minutes off highway and a short distance to the park.

This hotel has some pluses being very close to Hershey area but the hotel is showing its age and lack of upkeep. First floor room had stains in ceiling in bathroom and mold over the shower area. Rugs are dirty. A/C was either freezing or pushing out hot air. Thermostat was way off. The morning breakfast area is crowded and lacks sufficient seating. No area to purchase snacks or essentials. If you’re looking for a basic hotel that is adequate this is it. Area around hotel is devoid of dining choices too unless you count Sheetz or Fabio’s which was average as well.
