Clarion Inn & Suites South Carolina

We found ourselves looking for a hotel around 10pm in our trip from Orlando to Fayetteville, NC. The first place we Santee, NC everything was sold out so we drove on to Florence. We called the choice hotel reservations and they booked us at the Clarion Inn and Suites. Oh for clairvoyance. The price was $92 for the night but when we checked, they ask for a $100 damage deposit. Now that's really funny, the place was sketchy from the get go. Few cars and when we found our room, it was not really clean except for the beds, they did appear clean. It was now 12:30am and we were tired so we decided to stay and get some rest. I suggest not staying here, I really didn't feel safe and was definitely disappointed.

I've never ha such a terrible experience in my life. The pictures online are Bait and Switch. The pool is run down and looks like it hasn't been usable in years. The first thing I noticed when we pulled in was that there was almost no cars in this huge parking lot. We were in town for the Race and checked in right before we had to leave for the race. We just wanted to drop our bags off and leave, but they gave us the wrong room. Two queens instead of the king we booked. No big deal. We went to the front desk and told them that we didn't have time to switch rooms then, but we would when we got back. They agreed and we left. When we returned they gave us another room that was already occupied. That guy wasn't very happy that we were trying to get in his room. We go back down to the front desk and he again gives us another room. This time he escorts us to the room and as we walk in, we are blasted with cigarette smoke smell. It was disgusting! We immediately booked a room at another hotel. We went down to the front desk and told them that we did not want to stay in their hotel and we had booked somewhere else. He told us that we had to speak to the manager in the morning, because he was unable to refund our money. When we talked to the manager she was extremely rude and refused to refund our money.

This is probably the first negative review I’ve written about any Choice hotel. Hot water? None. Water came out of the faucet rusty. Privacy? Not with these blinds. Furniture? Seen way better at Econolodge. Property… run down, you could tell this once was a three star. Pool, green. Only reason for two stars… staff was friendly.

I’m a trucker and it’s hard for us to find a hotel with a parking large enough to park my rig. That’s why I chose this place. They claim that the rooms are non- smoking but they reek like cigarettes and they try to convince you that it is the spray they use to refresh the rooms. Yeah, like I was born yesterday. The bathroom had really black mold behind the toilet that barely flushes and a shower with very poor pressure. The only reason why I stayed here is because I did not have any drive time left in my clock to drive to the hotel next to it. I will never stay here and I will recommend my company not to allow any of our drivers stay here. Also I recommend anyone else to stay away from this hotel.

I have travelled for business for many, many years and hotels with some issues don't phase me. On this trip I was actually feeling unsafe in this hotel. There was overflowing garbage hanging from railings, in front of doors, and trash piled in corners all over. The pool is closed and is a mess. There were few cars there although i was told they were sold out. The back lot where you were told to walk your pet was also trashed and not somewhere to walk in the dark. There appeared to be some people living at the hotel although I can't be sure. There were some shady characters there as well. Ironically it looks like they are working on the interior/rooms and that was not a problem. But the atmosphere would keep me from ever staying here again. If I had no prepaid I would have left. Choice Hotels aare generally OK. Not this one!
