Alexander Inn

This is an old hotel, but has its charms! First the pros- fun location in the gayborhood, lots of restaurants near by. Gets loud at night so close your window. I had a tiny single room and window AC cooled it down quickly and perfectly. Very loud bathroom fan was perfect white noise at night to conceal the partying from the street below! Staff are friendly, breakfast is great- fruit salad, yogurt, pastries, hard boiled eggs. I only made it once to the afternoon happy hour but it was nice. Suggest maybe removing the window coverings from the breakfast room to brighten it up- a bit dark. My one concern was the presence of a very unwell young heavily tattooed guy and his dog. Clearly suffering from addiction. Twice I encountered him in the lobby. He looked terribly agitated and kept saying a loud hihihi to everyone who walked near him. I thought he had just wandered in. But I saw him twice more- once clearly interacting with the staff as though they knew him. I don know if he was a guest, or maybe someone the staff try to help? The third time I saw him he was completely sprawled out on the sidewalk next to the hotel stoop with drug paraphenalia and dog all over the sidewalk. I see another reviewer wrote about him some weeks ago taking the elevator with the dog- it must be the same guy. He made me uncomfortable and his presence made me feel unsafe. For this reason, I wont be back to this hotel.

The Alexander Inn is undeniably basic and a little tired but it’s super-clean, competitively priced, and in a great location. Add to that the staff who are friendly and helpful, the lounge area with a great coffee machine available 24 hours, the evening social with drinks, cakes and fruit, and a decent continental breakfast thrown in, and you have a lovely neighbourhood hotel. Very happy to recommend

We arrived early in the morning and not only could the hotel accommodate us, they upgraded us to a bigger room. Every interaction with staff was a delight and the shared spaces and room had great atmosphere.

It’s a small but cozy place. Staff is friendly and helpful. Have an evening social every day from 5 to 7 w/drinks provided. Close to downtown

Always stay at the Alexander Inn when in Philly. Not a bad ride from airport to hotel. Close to night life, team is great.
