Holiday Inn Express Roseburg an IHG Hotel

I haven’t stayed in Roseburg for since I was on a work assignment several years ago but we were at a family event in Portland and didn’t leave until mid afternoon. When we passed Eugene it was dark and foggy and we thought it would be safer to stop. I was happy to find a Holiday Inn Express because they are reliably comfortable. This one is just about what you expect from an HI Express. Nice room with a comfortable bed. The staff was great and the room was perfectly clean. The cool thing was the place sits right next to the Umpqua River and the rooms have little balconies to take in the view (although it was dark and foggy the whole time we were there). They have a nice little pet area that our dogs liked. The TV was small for modern standards and our volume did not go quite loud enough. My breakfast was not quite hot - not sure how that happened. Other than that it’s a typical HI Express.

This appears to be an older hotel that has been renovated. The room size was ok and it was clean. It was a bit noisy, probably due to its age, but not excessively so. The hotel did not have a “pantry” just vending machines. They had a decent, well stocked breakfast and the staff was helpful. There is easy access to the freeway.

Stayed here for three nights, checkin was disappointing. The guy on reception, not too sure how/why he’s in the hospitality game. Miserable as hell, no welcome/hello, no enthusiasm or branding. No acknowledgment of status, apart from “do you want points or an amenity”, no explanation of the hotel or facilities, very poor. Bed and room was comfortable, the linen is crisp and fresh. The room is clean albeit extremely dated. Dated furniture, paper peeling off the walls and the aircon unit is like something from the 70’s and sounds like a tractor. No chance of sleeping with that on. The room has a large bathroom with a shower over the bath. The towels were fresh and fluffy and the shower curtain clean. Dove products were supplied. Overall , It really looks and feels like an old motel. The decoration, reception area and dark paintwork and furniture. The breakfast is typical HIE and starts the day well, plenty of produce and reasonable choice. For $200+ a night it was a low key experience. It’s the worst HIE we have stayed in so far and would benefit from a full refurb.

We were happy that we chose the Holiday Inn Express while attending a wedding in the area. We enjoyed a luxurious bed with velvety soft sheets, a peaceful view of the river from our own private balcony and a very accommodating and friendly staff. On our way out of town we grabbed some amazing coffee at Cascades Coffee (2 minutes away) which hit the spot and added an exclamation point to a great stay!

Brand new, clean and wonderful stay. I wish I could have stayed for more than one night, the room was so spacious and clean. I was on the freeway side and it was windy, with the wind making noise during the night, however, it was similar to a. noise machine and it did not detract from my getting a good night's sleep. Stay here - you will be glad you did.
