I called ahead to confirm amenities, checked the website for pool hours, and booked. After my daughterâs cheer comp was canceled, we arrived excitedâonly to find the pool closed at 8 PM with no notice. A lobby full of upset guests got the same response: âNot our problem, itâs been this way for months.â Totally disappointing, especially after confirming beforehand.

I ve been staying here for years as it's close to family. The staff is very nice and the hotel, although it's not new, is clean. But be prepared that there is NO food. There may be some breakfast but I haven't seen it for a while and there is definitely no dinner service. Try The Continental for dinner or lunch....less than a mile away by car.

The hotel photos donât show how dark, worn out and dingy this Clarion has become. Everything is outdated and the one small elevator is back by the ice machine,â more like a service elevator. The breakfast was of little variety with doughnuts or muffins or prepackaged cereal bars. The coffee/hot water machine was accross from this closet, the tea bag variety in its Lipton box. Coming in on the Concord bus line on a Sunday night, having just flown from Germany to Boston, I was dead tired. The clerk at the desk must have failed hospitality 101 because if there had been ANY other hotel nearby, I would have trudged to it with my 40lb suitcase at 9:30 at night and I am almost eighty! I would recommend STAYING AWAY from this hotel.

This is the BEST hotel for Maine Medical Center. It is less than 1 mile from Maine Medical Center and it provides a shuttle to and from. If you are in Portland for the purpose of going to MMC, the hotel gives you a special rate. Breakfast is included. It is a sit down meal with four hot choices for those who have vouchers. There are other choices on the menu. Both the food and service is very good. The rooms are spacious and very clean. One person who really stands out is Terra at the front desk. She was extremely helpful and very nice. It is very important to book directly with the hotel for the best rates and discount from MMC.

This is an okay-not-great hotel, but worth it if you are 1) on a budget, and want 2) to be relatively near downtown and 3) to have free parking. One reception desk agent we dealt with was fantastic; one was fine; the other was on the surly side. There is nice seating in the common area; also the dining room isnât used after breakfast, so there are tables there where you can sit and talk, play cards or work at your laptop. The room itself is what youâd expect for this low price (e.g., plastic glasses; downscale amenities). The light was dim in the room; I couldnât even read a book in bed. The housekeeping and maintenance of the facility is below par. The cold water cooler in the lobby doesnât work. The carpet in our room was stained in many places; this is something you expect in a bad motel, not in a national hotel chain. There was a water bottle left in the fridge by a prior guest, and some gel spilled on the night table â which makes you wonder what else they neglected on their cleaning checklist. I actually had called and left a clear message in advance with housekeeping for a request, which had to do with room prep. They did not call me back and they did not fulfill my request. The room itself is well furnished. A desk with an adjustable chair is a plus. Adequate outlets. Good quality wooden hangers. Towels and pillows so-so. Beds comfortable, linens fine. Lots of surface space in the bathroom. We had a nice view on the 5th floor and from sitting in bed, we could just see tree tops, which was pleasant. I donât think I would stay here again because I feel that housekeeping management doesnât care about guests (since they didnât return my call) and because the cleanliness is in question, but if cleanliness is not a concern, it is a good price for Portland and convenient to everything if you have a car. Do you like good food? We had breakfast at Bayou Kitchen and at Hot Suppa, followed by coffee and pastry at Norimoto/Rwanda Coffee Bean and Tandem Coffee; dinner at Street & Co. and at Isa â all highly recommended.
