We stayed for three nights at the Super 8 Wyndham Motel in Medina Ohio in early February 2025. To our surprise, this was the best inexpensive American motel we’ve ever experienced. It is so much better than the norm that we are writing our first ever motel review. COST: About $56/night when we were there. Less than half the cost of the Holiday Inn Express next door, and comparable to the least expensive motels in the area. FACILITY: A simple, modest two-story facility that isn’t new, but is kept in excellent condition. The rooms and common areas are clean and well-maintained. There is no elevator, which is a PLUS since it’s only two stories and elevators are expensive to maintain. The lack thereof probably is part of why this motel is able to keep their costs down while keeping quality up in a variety of areas that tend to be neglected at inexpensive motels. STAFF: The front desk is manned either by the owner of the hotel or by a German-American woman who I believe is named Rosa. There is minimal front desk staff—it’s only Rosa or the owner, both who provide superior service. The staffing approach reminds me of European and East Asian small hotels which have only one or two people who man the front desk. This may be another reason for how this motel is able to deliver superior quality at such a low price by minimizing staff overhead. The cleaning team are all young, friendly folks who are native English speakers, who do a great job in cleaning rooms AND who provide great customer service. Every day the cleaning staff asked us if we’d like the sheets changed, the room cleaned, new towels….whatever we wanted. It was obvious that they were happy in their work. Keeping front line staff happy is largely a function of good management, so kudos to the owner and to Rosa for engendering an engaged cleaning and maintenance team. OUR ROOM: Our room, at our request, was on the second floor. When we arrived we found the room spotlessly cleaned and perfectly maintained. Sheets were obviously new or close to new, not threadbare. Everything in the room functioned perfectly. There were no odd smells, no mildew, the air in the room was fresh. It was a cold few days when we were there and the heating worked perfectly. The HVAC system was quiet. The room overlooked a wooded area. We saw deer a couple of times outside our window—low quality picture attached. At no time during our stay did we ever hear other guests or distracting noise outside our doorway. Overall, even on a night when the motel was reasonably full, it was a quiet and comfortable place to sleep. FREE BREAKFAST: A simple continental breakfast, but with some nice upgrades. They have a high-end Belgian waffle machine that is exactly the same machine used at the best five star hotels. It produces thick waffles that are dramatically better than the waffles at most other inexpensive motels. Perhaps they are using higher-level waffle mix. They provide real butter, not imitation butter. They have fresh fruit. Their coffee is richer and overall better than the American coffee we had at the Bob Evans Restaurant just down the street. All in all, their breakfast is another example of this property executing better than comparable inexpensive motels—simple services but really well-done. OVERALL: This motel has much better customer reviews than all the other inexpensive motels in the area. We never know what to make of hotel customer reviews, but in this case, those reviews are accurate. This Super 8 motel, from any customer experience perspective, simply outperforms any other inexpensive motel we’ve ever stayed at and is even better than the majority of the mid-priced motels we know like Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, etc. The owners and managers of this motel are showing what can be done at a simple, modest inexpensive motel when the property is managed by a caring and creative team who have the talent to deliver superior customer experience at such a favorable cost. Highly recommended.

This is a doggy hotel. Yes, guest with dogs leave their barking dogs in their rooms in the evening and take off. So the guest that are next or across from to rooms just have to suck it up. According to the staff they called the dog owners and they wouldn’t answer their cell phone. We unfortunately were right across the hall where the dogs just barked and barked at their door. The breakfast room has just three tables. And yes, the dogs are sitting there around the tables in the breakfast room with just three tables. If you’re a dog owner, you’re gonna love it if you’re not, and you were responsible to leave your dogs at home stay I’ll way. !!!!

The first two items did not effect the score but bore mentioning First - this has always been a family joint right down to Lucky the dog greeting you. But when we checked in this time Ken was teaching his son the finer points of the computer res system which we thought was great Second - we found ourselves in a bind, we stayed the precious night at the Quality Inn next door (1* is far to generous for that joint) and we fleed the first chance we got. However is was 9am and check in was not until 3pm ... I told my wife I have a 10% shot at getting a room. Ken to the rescue again - we had our feet up and TV on by 915am ... thanks mate!!! Now on with the show stories - 2 elevator - NO ***** TAKE NOTE **** pool - no smoking area - yes picnic area - yes 24 hour front desk - yes gym - no ice machine - yes laundry - yes handicapped acc - yes breakfast - basic continental staff - welcoming & friendly dog - small pets welcome - yes parking - plenty freeway access - plenty
