Athens Central Hotel

Our one night stay at Athens Central was the final night of our 12-night journey through 10 states. We chose Athens as our destination as it was approximately the halfway point of the final leg of our trip. While the first eleven nights were at lovely chain properties, I wanted my head to rest in Athens within walking distance of the Ohio University area restaurants and bars. Athens Central accomplished that objective. The words that come to mind in describing Athens Central would be sleek, eclectic and memorable. Lobby and interior hallways are small & cramped, but our guest room was large & comfortable. I found bed to be too soft. Beautiful shower. Huge floor to ceiling picture window in our room overlooking an Athens intersection. If walking around town, be mindful of somewhat steep hills & uneven brick streets. Athens Central staff friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was adequate. It appeared to me that the breakfast offerings were what the breakfast attendant was whipping up at the moment. While we were enjoying our eggs, sausage & biscuits (at 8am), the breakfast attendant told the next couple who arrived to hang on a few minutes as he would be preparing fried potatoes. No issue, just not what we've become so accustomed to at chain property breakfasts. I don't know that we will have the opportunity to visit Athens again, but pleased with my decision to stay at Athens Central. Mission accomplished!

My wife and I stayed 1 night, arriving at 2PM to a welcoming receptionist who checked my identity for our prepay while I signed a liability form, then presented the key cards with the wifi. We took their elevator to the 2nd floor. Room #214 was vinyl planking, clean and spacious with a very comfortable king, desk & chair, easy chair, closet bar, medium sized refrigerator, micro, coffee maker and large TV with a Roku/TV guide(Bloomberg, CNN, ESPNs, HBO, HGTV, PBS and local networks & unlimited channels). 3 large windows overlooked neighboring homes. The large fully outfitted bathroom had a tiled shower enclosure with premium rainhead sprayer, fluffy towels and fan. Good secure wifi, ample outlets, good lighting and a well located AC/heat unit. The 7AM breakfast was excellent: juices, fruit, fruit cups, raisin bran/cheerios, boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins, packaged sweets, toast and a Folger’s Coffee Machine. Overall, we had a quiet night’s sleep and enjoyed our stay.

Hospitality galore by receptionists. Outstanding breakfast. The very best shower stall I have ever experienced. Convenient location to Ohio University. First class operation. Highly recommended hotel in a small town. I plan to schedule a return visit to Athens and my overnight stay will definitely be Athens Central Hotel.

This hotel and staff are top notch. They were awesome from check in to check out. It was clean and beautiful. It is the best hotel in Ohio hands down. Beds were super comfortable as well. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Parking was great too.

The room and hotel are very neat and clean. The large windows bring in a lot of light, and the bathroom is spacious with a nice walk-in shower with multiple functions. The only issue is the noise. You can hear your neighbors pulling the blinds up or down and using the bathroom. The hotel is on a busy intersection at the edge of campus, and the noise from the street is non-stop. One of the streets is made of brick, which seems to make it worse. If you're a heavy sleeper, or you can sleep with earplugs or don't mind a sleepless night, it's not a bad choice due to its walking distance to campus.
