Candlewood Suites Fargo N. Dakota State University an IHG Hotel

While the hotel room itself was OK some of the staff are something to be desired. We had booked through a third-party and they charged my credit card instead of taking ownership and apologizing they placed blame. Charged my credit card again. It took a total of six phone calls to get it somewhat corrected as I am from out of country the dollar changes on a daily basis and I was still left with charges on my card as the dollar had changed when I called to say that this had happened and see what they could do. I was treated very rudely and told I shouldn’t have booked with a third-party. I travel to Fargo on a monthly basis with my company, and I will ensure that we never book at this hotel again.

I chose the Candlewood for the most reasonable price with a full kitchen. I like to make my own meals and have extra space to move around. There is no pool or hot tub, nor a continental breakfast, which is a refreshing change to standard hotels. No kids screaming and stomping down the hallway to get to the pool. No smell of burning toast wafting through the hallway, or beeping waffle makers at 6 am. I didn't realize how annoying that was until I stayed here. My room was clean and well appointed. The no-stick frying pan was well worn, though. I may bring my own next time, lol. You can check out small kitchen appliances, glasses, even DVD's etc. at the front desk. It is very quiet here despite being right across the road from Hector Airport. I travel to Fargo often and will keep coming back to the Candlewood.

I stayed at this hotel 6 years ago, but will have to say I was disappointed in my stay this time. The positives: the location was great for the agenda we had in town, the young lady at check in was friendly and efficient, bed was very comfortable, very quiet even though hotel was pretty full, we could have our dog with us. The negatives: our room had a weird smell that was very strong when entering our room, we opened our window to try to get fresher air, the carpet did not seem to have been vacuumed well as I kept stepping on little pieces of gravel, no luggage rack, there are no towel racks in bathroom even for the handtowels, utensil drawer was missing a fork. Overall, just did not seem to be kept up to the level that I had expected.

Check-in was smooth. Tonya was pleasant and efficient. The room was spacious and comfortable. It had a recliner that i wished I could take with me. I never walk bare foot in a room, but would have been fine with it here. The bed and pillows were just right, too. Just one little thing. Like many hotels now, the soap, shampoo and conditioner are in dispensers attached to the wall in the shower. Fine for showering, but if you're sitting in the tub, you cannot reach the soap. Not too convenient.

Stayed for three nights just to “get away.” Room was clean and Lisa at the front desk was AMAZING!!! She was so friendly, upbeat and helpful! Very sure she worked the entire weekend and never complained at all. In fact we brought her lunch 😊! Our elderly chocolate lab loved it as well. We will definitely return!
