Tailwater Lodge Altmar Tapestry Collection by Hilton

The hotel location is awesome! The trail along salmon river is fun to walk or snowshoe. This is a great location also to walk around with your dog. All food here is delicious and the bar is great. My wife had an amazing experience at the spa also.

We stayed in a suite. It was very spacious. I loved the plunge bathtub. There’s lots of things to do inside (game room, fitness room, and pool) and outside (horseshoes, corn hole, disc golf). The whole hotel has a very natural, minimalist vibe.

This is a unique property that used to be a school. The decor is rustic but comfortable with modern amenities in the rooms and very clean throughout. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel strives to balance catering to the hunters and fishermen and the non-outdoor sporting people, as well. There are lots of peaceful seating areas around the hotel, a fitness center, a game room, pool/hot tub and spa. The pool and hot tub were beautiful but the pool was very, very cold especially for an indoor pool. There are two bars and the restaurant has a robust dinner menu but the breakfast offerings were limited. One traveler tip, and this is no fault of the hotel at all, avoid an adults only/couples trip on holiday weekends when the kids don’t have school. As is common at other hotels, families from the area book rooms just so they can deposit their kids at the pool all day, sitting nearby sipping beer and wine with the other parents. The pool and hot tub were overrun with kids and practically unusable the entire time the facilities were open. At one point we counted 22 kids and adults crammed into the hot tub at once. The pool area closes at 9 pm. Having an adults only time from 9 pm to 11 pm would be a nice addition. We would definitely like to try the property again during a time when it is not overrun with kids.

I checked into the hotel yesterday. The hotel itself is beautiful, but as a tourist, despite not having any issues at other hotels in this country, I encountered communication difficulties here for the first time. I quickly took my room key and left, hoping the issue would be resolved. However, still puzzled, I asked a relative to call and speak in English to understand the problem. It turned out that the only real issue was a communication gap. As a customer making an effort to speak English, I expect staff to try different words or phrases to ensure we understand each other. Simply repeating the same sentence doesn't help. In short, if you're a foreigner, I recommend being extra careful when choosing a hotel

I have not stayed at the Tailwater Lodge yet, but am familiar with it. While the Tailwater Lodge is a beautiful place to visit, I am writing this review to caution people who wish to purchase a gift card through "Square" through the Lodge's website. I purchased a $200 digital gift card and never received it. I called Square, and when I finally got ahold of them, they gave me the "run around" and claimed they couldn't find my transaction. They passed me off to "E-Card", which does not handle digital gift cards for Square. When I called the Lodge, they were not able to assist me either because it doesn't handle its own gift cards. This is a really disappointing and frustrating experience. Please be careful purchasing a gift card from the Lodge's website. Perhaps, Tailwater Lodge should consider using a different company.
