ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE!! My wife and I booked and paid in full for a room here for Saturday February 8th and Sunday February 16th to stay before and after our anniversary trip to the Dominican Republic. Our flight was delayed an hour due to a severe snow storm in Syracuse. When we arrived shortly after 1am to check in, the desk clerk told us there was a "glitch" in their system and that they overbooked and the room that was charged and paid for on my credit card was given to someone else and that they had no other accommodations. My wife and I tried finding a hotel until 3:30 in the morning to get some sleep after a long day of traveling. Due to the storm we could not find a hotel that could take us in and slept in our car in a shopping plaza parking across from hotel until the storm lightened up and we could drive home. THIS WAS NOT HOW WE WOULD HAVE LIKED TO END OUR ANNIVERSARY TRIP. When the Manager (Heather) finally reached out to me two days later she admitted that the desk clerk had made an error and scolded me for being upset with them. She also said that i was at fault after that statement because i didn't call the hotel to inform them our plane was delayed . This would have been difficult with no international data on our phones as well as having to be on flight mode onboard the planes. I explained to her that the room was paid in full from Sunday February 16th 3:00pm until Monday February 17th 12:00pm in which we could check in at ANYTIME as indicated on our confirmation ( the confirmation is attached to this review showing that) .Heather showed no empathy or remorse for our situation and took the offense. WE SLEPT IN A CAR DURING A BLIZZARD FOR THE MISTAKE SHE ADMITTED WAS MADE BY THEM. Heather said she would reimburse us for the room that we had paid for (they were still paid for this room by the person they gave it to , so there was no loss on there end...and we became just a number). I asked Heather if she would reimburse us for the room we spent on the night before we left to compensate our night of sleeping in the car during the storm in which she denied. I had to reach out to IHG hotels and dealt with 4 different employees who also showed absolutely no compassion in this matter and resulted in 10,000 reward points to compensate our dilemma. The average night in one of there hotels in my hometown is an approximately 30,000 points (this compensation won't even cover a one night stay) In the end....this was the most horrendous customer service I have ever experienced. I would not recommend the Syracuse Candleweod Inn or any IHG hotel to my worst enemy. My five year membership will be flushed down the toilet. To start we arrived at the hotel some time after noon as a party of 7, my parents, my two sisters, my partner and my one of my sisters partners and we booked two rooms for one night. Upon walking into the hotel we were greeted to a literal construction site. There was a large tarp on the far end of the lobby which covered up something, presumably renovation work, and the ground had guys working on tiling. We had to walk over a cardboard walkway to get to our rooms. The front desk was staffed by two people, who didn’t have uniforms. Behind the front desk looked disorganized and on the front desk there was a pile of pillows and blankets. The staff at the front desk were very polite and helpful which is possibly the only good thing about this place. The walls of this place all have black streaks and smudge marks and every doorframe had dents and smudge marks near the handles. It looked horrible. First pair of rooms: The room meant for my sisters, me and our partners didn’t have a fold out bed like we had booked. The room was clean, though I didn’t have to time to look around as we had pretty much went straight back to the front desk to get a new room. The room my parents stayed in smelt strongly of cigarettes, and they also switched rooms right away. Second pair of rooms: Upon walking into the room we were staying in the smell of funk but mostly urine hit us. It was so bad it had my sister and I gagging. The tables in the rooms had what seemed to be oil or some residue form cleaning products, the fold out bed/couch looked like it had been there sense the 80s and had yellow stains on its pillows, the walls had splash marks from something and the windows, which we opened to try and air out the place had no screens so bugs could just fly in. The room was disgusting. My parents room was fine and they had pretty much the same problem we did but to a lesser extent and no urine smell. Third pair: The woman who was looking after us was very polite and helpful and was able to get us two extra rooms, one for my parter and I and one for my two sisters and their partner. Our smelt like cleaner and funk when we walked in but wasn’t too bad smelling. At this point we left to go eat and shop and when we came back the room smelt like feet for some reason. My partner and I had just decided this is probably the best we’ll get and stayed in this room. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. With the state this place is in I have no idea why it’s open for people to stay in. The more I look the grosser it gets. If you want to stay in a place that isn’t gross and doesn’t smell or look like a crack den go across the road at the holiday in.

I travel a lot, both for business and pleasure, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences of my entire life. Staff has no clue how to run a hotel. The place is filthy and long overdue for renovation. Hallways hadn't been vacuumed in months. A female traveling solo should never be placed on an empty floor at the very end of the hallway, miles away from the elevator. The hotel no longer offers airport shuttle, though it was listed on the website. The front desk didn't have a key to the pantry to make coffee in the early a.m. avoid this hotel until it is sold or gutted.

As noted, the Candlewood Suites is right down the road from the Syracuse airport. It was generally clean, if not a little beat up, and it had, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and a two-burner electric stove. There was even a little desk. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. In the opposite direction from the airport were a few decent restaurants and a Wegmans grocery store. Housekeeping only appeared once a week unless clean linens were requested. There was a Holiday Inn express nearby. It looked newer, but it was more expensive and, I suspect, did not have the kitchen amenities. All in all the Candlewood Suites was acceptable, and close to the airport. I would probably stay there again.
