We visited the Clipper Inn more than 20 years ago when we bought a property in the thousand islands area of New York and unfortunately, after ordering their most expensive seafood combination or disgusted when we received our dinner plates, marginal, tiny pieces of seafood floating in a pool of butter. We did send these plates back and all they did was try to, remove the huge amount of butter that it saturated these tiny portions of seafood that were provided in their best seafood Combination in their menu. From that experience, we found other restaurants of high-quality and excellent choices on their menus, but we decided to give the Clipper Inn in Clayton another opportunity and made reservations for dinner. We arrived on time and were escorted to an area incredibly crowded with people, literally on top of each other and very noisy and we asked for a different location for dinner which we were denied even though we could see there were other areas of the restaurant that were available. Consequently we left and went to Nataliās C Way restaurant Located nearby, where the atmosphere was great, The service was excellent and the meals that we Thoroughly enjoyed our menu choices.

The extended waiting time to be seated is a bit baffling given the fact that the venue is large with a lot of empty tables. Other than that, love the food and super friendly staff. A nice place to enjoy the evening!

We enjoyed a wonderful meal in the Clipper Inn restaurant but did not stay in the adjoining motel. The restaurant features a very long menu with a variety of dishes. All were excellent. The special is an early dinner (ordered from 5-6 PM) with a glass of wine, a choice of first courses, and one of several entrees at a significantly lower price. The shrimp scampi is truly amazing, but all the food was top quality. Samantha, our server, was delightful. Not only competent, she was charming and helpful. She never made us feel rushed and did her best to guarantee us a memorable evening. We never order dessert, but this time we split a decadent chocolate creation and brought home one for late-night snacking. All desserts -- except the ice cream -- are house made and luscious. We will definitely put this on our list of "return visit restaurants."

I stayed here while visiting friends nearby and wow! Mold! Mold throughout the bathroom. Two panels of the shower curtain were stuck together with mold. Toiletries were old moldy bottles that were either refilled or never used. The air was so bad that after a night sleep, I coughed up phlegm in the parking lot. Coming out of a two-year covid pandemic, I would have expected better. I will self test for the next week because conditions were certainly ripe to spread disease. The place should be condemned. I stayed in Room # 1. I have been to Europe , Middle Ease, Africa, South America and over 15 times in underdeveloped Cuba and have never experienced such conditions anywhere! I am glad that I had plastic sandals to stand in the shower with. In future, I will definitely be staying elsewhere when visiting these friends. I was so grossed out that I did not even prepare coffee in the room. I could not get up early enough and leave!

Our room was sparkling clean. The towels were so white and thick, I was amazed. The shower was small but I could tell it was recently remodeled. The water pressure was awesome. For the price, this was a deal. I l liked that there was no carpeting but tiled floors. For a small roadside motel, this is a nice value. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed making my coffee in the provided coffee pot/free coffee.
