Residence Inn By Marriott West Orange

I returned to this property after being away for 1-2 years and have to say both the common areas and the rooms are in need of a refresh and improved soundproofing. The fridge in my room had a large dent and the common area furniture was worn. A refresh should also address an ongoing issue where you can hear noise in connecting rooms as if the TV show or the conversation is occurring live in your room. Ditto when I went to bed and I could hear a normal-toned conversation through the wall. I was also surprised that the former wedding venue adjacent to the hotel was either under construction or it had shut down. This is a convenient location to Montclair as well as NYC and the hotel offers a nice complimentary breakfast - hopefully an update is in the works.

I have to say awful. Check in was fine but everything else was awful. Especially the bed. We were in a king room and the bed well let’s just say we slept on the couch and then left early. The bed is soft and unsupportive we already booked a message for today. The pillows are equally as bad. This was our first time staying here and I would caution people to **Stay Away*** Also what was alarming as well was the amount of mousse or other traps we saw in the hallway as we went to our room.

I had a quiet room, the hotel itself is a gem in that it’s not near anything noisy so I was so so relieved to go there vs nyc. David , who makes the front desk fabulous and should be a manager if he isn’t already, went above and beyond. He patiently listened to my sleep deprived over sharing and was so v kind with attempting to on the fly cover a poster that I needed to get back home. He honestly made the trip and, without trying to be inappropriate, was easy on the eyes to boot. Thanks David for being a sweetie, giving me the encouragement I needed to go out and helping make this solo traveler feel a bit happier. Oh and per the hotel, great breakfast, really nice person working there and I also met a v sweet lady working housekeeping. I will be back.

A nice hotel with a fully stocked kitchenette. Plenty of parking, front desk was friendly and always greeted us with a smile. The included breakfast had everything one needed to get started. The hotel store was well stocked. The only problem.. The pillows need to be replaced. My group had 3 rooms and everyone complained about the pillows. I'd stay here again, but I'd bring my own pillow.

I live in the area but we were experiencing a heat waive so I decided a good use for my Marriott Free Night certificate was to treat my family to a local night in a hotel and swim. What could be better on a 95º day? We booked a 1 bedroom suite, grabbed our bathing suits/overnight bags and took the 1 mile drive to the hotel. Pulling up it looks like one of the nicest Residence Inns I have ever stayed in (and I have stayed in a number of them). Everything felt higher end than a typical Residence Inn. Our check-in was flawless and we went to our room. Upon opening the door I felt like a giant. I have stayed in Residence Inns in NYC, DC and Philly as well as other cities, and this suburban hotel had a smaller room than those cities. The furniture pretty much took up the entirety of the space. We all got changed into our bathing suits, went down to the pool and again felt like a giant. The wide angle lens they photographed the pool with was really deceptive. It looked huge but it was not. There were 5 other people in the pool when we got there, so the kids could barely move around and play. The finish on the bottom of the pool has seen better days and could really use a re-finishing. We were there for a couple hours, so once everyone left it was fine. After the swim we had a really nice snack break in the courtyard. This was very spacious and really nice hotel feature. The hotel is essentially a box (you can walk around the halls turning right every 20 rooms, continually), it means the courtyard can only be accessed from within the hotel. This made it feel very private. Additionally there were lots of different flowers around which was a nice touch. The room was so tiny we decided it was going to be too uncomfortable for us to enjoy. We grabbed our stuff and went back to the car and went home to sleep. The next morning we did come back for breakfast however. It was well stocked and plentiful. The staff working were extremely friendly. Breakfast was advertised as finishing at 9:30, and at 9:30 the staff left and turned off the kitchen lights. They left all the food out for people to continue to help themselves to. When we finally checked out at 10:15 it was still out, which is a nice touch for anyone who missed the 9:30 window.
