Our 135 year old historic mansion is your home away from home during your hotel stay in downtown Portsmouth, NH. Located just steps from bustling Market Square, you are just a short walk from all the shopping, restaurants, historic sites, and waterfront attractions that make Portsmouth so special. With amenities that only larger hotels typically provide, guests at our intimate 32 room hotel have access to personalized service 24 hours a day, unique common area rooms for relaxing or gathering, as well as meeting rooms to accommodate small functions and events. As with all Lark Hotels, we strive to create a memorable and customized stay for each of our guests. We look forward to hosting you in historic downtown and showing you what makes Portsmouth unique. Hotel History Built in 1881 as the home of John E. Sise and his family, 40 Court Street is a classic example of a Queen Anne Victorian architecture. The Stick Style mansion is located in historic Haymarket Square and is a monument to Victorian success. Later owned by one of the Sise daughters and her husband Alfred Gooding, the antiquarian minister of the South Church -who doubled the size of the original house-, the mansion was expanded again in 1985 and opened as the Sise Inn. An elaborate, historically sensitive, six month renovation of the property was completed in April 2014 prior to re-opening as The Hotel Portsmouth.
