The Sugarloaf Mountain Motel is an older place on the main street of Virginia City. Our room was very small but it had everything that we needed. There is also a small grocery store in the middle of the building. We walked down the wooden sidewalk on a Thursday night around 7:00 PM looking for a place for dinner but all of the restaurants were already closed. There was a bar that was open but they didn't serve food. Luckily we found a place called Cafe Del Rio near the motel that was open and we had dinner there.

So I want to give it a 5 based on price, interesting location, rustic vibes, and friendly phone conversations. But, I will say, you should arrive before the office closes. We were a bit shy of the 8pm deadline. So, I felt silly calling for the Wi-Fi code because it was on a frame on the wall. I looked all through the book. And then, we couldn’t find the tv remote, and I didn’t want to call back. Found it under the bed in the morning by chance. But, it reminded me of a hotel I would have stayed at when I was young traveling around with my dad. Old rustic country vibes in an old town. Everything was clean. We had to park out on the street being late, but all was well.

Very inexpensive. We stayed one night in route to somewhere else. It’s an old style motel. We showed up in late afternoon and asked if they had a room. They did. I had read that Room 1 was haunted and asked to see it. Owner warned that it was their smallest room. I checked it out and decided I didn’t like it. It was indeed small and had a bride doll that I didn’t like. A bit creepy for me. We took room 4, king bed. It’s small for typical hotel rooms, but was very clean, and campy with old furniture and nice soft linens and cozy blanket. Good cable TV. It had cool AC, a cute refrigerator/freezer and a microwave. The bathroom had a shower, no tub, and was clean and freshly painted. They provided soaps, large bottles of shampoo and conditioner, a small tube of lavender body lotion, a hair dryer and adequate very white towels. The room was quiet until early morning when you could hear some road traffic. The little grocery store had snacks, some cooler items and some food. I didn’t look at that very close. The cat is named Smokey and his food dish is on the counter. Coffee was free when they opened at 8:00 am. I asked for ice for my water bottle and it was from a community bag of ice which was fine with me. The people that run it treat you like friends and family. We loved it. My only complaint was the door shade needed to be a bit wider as it let in light for my afternoon nap. We used a towel to block it. If you are really particular about lodging, this is not for you. But if you like staying at Grandma’s house, you’ll love it.

Faultless. This is an historic motel (smaller rooms than a modern chain motel), however it is wonderfully maintained and has great character. Parking is good off-road and free. Virginia City centre is a really short walk. Great benefit when Virginia City parking can be tough (or $10 a day). Very friendly people. Highly recommended
