Shady Motel

Shady Motel was a great place to stay while visiting Caliente. It had easy access to good dining, quiet and comfortable rooms, and really pleasant staff. My only disappointment was that the gorgeous old train station is still undergoing major renovation and isn't available for viewing. But I heartily recommend the Shady--and a visit to Caliente! Be sure to hit some of the state parks nearby.

Clean, friendly, reasonably priced motel on Rt 93. Comfortable room; TV, internet, amenities all worked well. Parked right outside my room in well lit lot. Good little restaurant right across the train tracks. Note the picture used here is the historic Caliente train station. I would stay here again, but I'd bring a softer pillow.

We watched their website for months, it always showed sold out. Room descriptions featured a picture of each room and a brief description except for a few rooms that stated the picture would be coming sometime in the future. These rooms did not show as booked so we called the hotel to inquire. We were told the hotel was indeed booked as there was a “big race” in town that weekend (we were booking a Thursday night) but the room without a picture was available for $87 + tax and it featured 2 queen beds. We booked it. Upon arrival we found the place practically deserted, and the room we booked had 1 queen bed. Being completely spent from the day long travel we were in no mood to argue but since the hotel was practically empty they could upgrade us to 2 queens for an additional $10. There was no “big race”. Decent,clean rooms but what a scam! Their bait and switch netted them $10 and a promise to never again darken their doorstep, in fact, we will completely avoid this town as there are no good restaurants either. The front desk will give you ear plugs to mitigate the noise of the frequent train activity across the street, but no worries. The roar of the a/c will more than drown out the trains.

Great motel, great room, and the hospitality was fantastic!! They called to see when we would be checking in, had snacks and drinks ready in the room and were very nice. Highly recommend this motel. We stayed for 1 night with 2 adults and 2 kids.

The rooms were very clean. The sheets were soft cotton and the beds were comfortable. The office staff were friendly and helpful. The railroad is located across the highway, but we did not notice railroad or highway noise from inside the room. Before coming to Caliente, we spent the night at a Comfort Suites, this hotel is much better. We would stay here again, and probably will.
