Hampton Inn Olive Branch

In Memphis for the week, visiting family in Byhalia, so Olive Branch seemed like a good middle point. Chose this Hampton Inn because it received good overall reviews and it had a good price, since others jacked up their prices for Valentine’s Day. Pros: 1. Great location with a plethora of amenities within minutes - theaters, shopping, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. 2.Good decor and fast check in. Cons: 1. Rooms are considered suites, with a fridge and microwave but are very-very small when compared to other hotels that offer suites. 2. The carpet has the typical design to hide dirt, but the fact that it was matted in places, with stains confirmed their very dirty status. 3. The heat/ac unit is a floor unit and it’s clear the filter doesn’t get changed, their is black dirt, soot, maybe mold in the slots (see pics). 4. Let’s talk about the til foyer and bathroom floor. The tile is supposed to be gray, but you would think by looking at it, the blackness is by design…It is not, that’s DIRT! The floor was damp after showering and the dirt rolled with the water, I almost checked out early, or just cancel the rest of the reservation (see pics). My wife talked me out of it and put towels down on the floor, we also walked with our shower shoes on the entire time and didn’t use the heat/ac! Reading the other reviews of hotels in the area, I’m not sure you can do much better, it’s just sad because it’s a Hilton brand and the area deserves better.

Stayed here several times. Hotel has always been quiet but the front desk staff were surly and downright unfriendly this visit. Asked for change so that I could tip the housekeeper and the man grudgingly said all he had were one dollar bills. He changed my twenty but when I said thank you, there was no response. I was also locked out from the outside entrance at 8 p.m. No one at the desk and no way to enter. Had to walk up two flights of stairs. Later when I went back out I mentioned this to another male and he said very curtly "well it's working now isn't it?" I mean I don't think it's too much to ask for a friendly greeting from front desk staff. I won't stay there a fourth time.

We choose Hampton Inn whenever possible, and we have stayed at this location in the past. Through the years it has become very worn and tired. New coats of paint have not changed that feeling. This place needs a total deep cleaning and a reno to bring it up to today’s standards. However, the stay was comfortable and quiet. We were on the second floor, which we never do, but there was absolutely no noise. The room is large and has all the features you expect. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was much better than typical Hamptons in other spots lately. The convenience of this location is another point in its favor. If you like Mexican food, you’ve got several options, one within walking distance. This is a hotspot for those restaurants! We would definitely choose this property again, but continue to encourage them to do better.

When I first arrived I immediately felt wary, there were people hanging out in the parking lot that I do not believe were staying at the hotel. Walking into the hotel, the ENTIRE place smelled like marijuana, the smell was awful in the lobby and the elevator. Room was decently clean however the floor in the bathroom was super slippery as if some sort of oil product was on it. Some mirrors still had smudges on them.
