Great accommodations, friendly staff, clean, and delicious breakfast! Rooms were well maintained and comfortable. The pool looked inviting, but we forgot our swimsuits. As always, the breakfast was excellent with a variety of options.

Great place to hang out with family and friends. The hotel staff was great, very accommodating. We all loved the continental breakfast and sitting by the pool in the evening. It was conveniently located right off of Hwy 10. Overall a very wonderful weekend.

We arrived about 4pm, exhausted after a fun filled day of finding all the trolls! The front desk staff was not very friendly. She asked for my credit card for payment. I told her I booked over the phone and my credit card had already been charged. I handed her the papers I had printed in case something like this happened since I read previous reviews. She told she didn't need to see any papers, she can see what's on the screen, but needed my credit card on file anyways. She checked us in, and gave us our room cards. She started to walk away and I asked her where our room was located and the best place to park in the parking lot. Her answers were very short, I felt like she had no time for us..... I chalked it up to everyone has an off day, but then I another staff as we were leaving for dinner, I said hello and she gave us a half smile, no words, I thought was rude and now the next day, a different staff, was not very friendly to an older couple. Not impressed. But, the man at the front desk in the morning about 8:30 was very friendly. He was very nice and polite. Thank You! The room was not the cleanest, the sink was still dirty, ice bucket was gross. Less than half a roll of toilet paper was left, I took that off immediately and put the new roll on. The thermostat had dirty fingerprints on them. The room took awhile to reach thermostat temperature after adjusting it. The hot tub was CLOSED, which was very disappointing, especially after a day of hiking multiple trails. The breakfast was decent. Coffee was very good!

I love staying at AmericInn whatever city I am visiting. I had the absolutely WORST experience before arriving at the Detroit Lake's AmericInn!! I received a text to complete my pre-arrival check-in to save time a the front desk. In the early morning of July 11th, I was on my way to Detroit Lakes and stopped to let my puppy go potty and get stretch her legs. I went to my text and started the check-in process. As I was finishing the process the hotel policies came up. It stated "This hotel does NOT allow pets. Bringing a pet into the hotel will result in a $250 fee charged to my credit card". There was a box below this statement which I needed to check that I have read and agreed to the policies. OMG! I need to turn around and take my puppy back home since I would have to pay $250 if my pet came into the hotel!! I turn the car around and head back home....45 minutes away and once again headed to Detroit Lakes from Kansas City, a 9.5 hr drive all by myself. Once I arrived at the AmericInn in Detroit Lakes, the clerk behind the counter was not even friendly, no smile, no greeting. I walked up to the desk and to the right of the counter there was a sign which stated "We are a DOG FRIENDLY HOTEL Please be advised that we have a non-refundable pet fee of $35 per night." What the heck!!! I explained to the clerk about my pre-arrival check-in I completed on the road which states the hotel does not allow dogs at the hotel and if a dog comes, it is a $250 charge!! The clerk said "well I guess our website hasn't been updated." I explained I was in town visiting my aunt who I am the DPOA for her affairs and she asked me to bring one of my puppies to see her. She lives in a local nursing home in Detroit Lakes and I promised her I would. The clerk was unapologetic and her affect extremely flat. I continued with the check-in process and asked the clerk if my request for a first floor room was possible. The clerk said "No" and told me my room would be 217 on the second floor. I took the luggage cart and went out to my car to load up my belongings. I pushed the cart back in and immediately went to the right of the front desk where the elevator is located (at all AmericInns). There was no elevator!! I rolled the cart back to the front desk, rang the bell for the same clerk to come to the desk. I asked her where is the elevator?? She said the hotel does not have an elevator. I was floored! I said to the clerk "there isn't an elevator in this hotel?" She confirmed there was not. I asked her how do handicapped/physically challenged people get to the second floor with no elevator? She informed me "You didn't ask for a handicapped accessible room". I informed her that is correct, I did not but this meant I could not have my aunt who is in a nursing home down the road and come up to my room so we could visit as her room at the nursing home isn't conducive to visiting for very long PLUS I was bringing my puppy for her to enjoy while visiting with me. My aunt IS handicapped, she has to use a walker to get short distances and a wheelchair for longer distances or going on outings. Without an elevator, there is no way my aunt could come to my room to visit!!! I feel this is an unacceptable practice! I will find a hotel in Detroit Lakes where I can bring my elderly aunt over to visit and be away from the nursing home where she stays 24/7. A hotel where if I am on the second floor, has an elevator in it to get my aunt into the room. From the incongruent dog policy to the no elevator in the hotel has made me rethink my decision to ever stay at this AmericInn again!
