Hadn't been to Detroit in years and was happy to see that a new Hilton property had recently opened up. First the positives: a very nice hotel visually and the rooms are nice and modern. Also, the staff I did interact with was very welcoming and pleasant. I unpacked and then went out for the evening. Returning around 10 pm, went to sleep but noticed a hum somewhere outside the room (but definitely in the building). I was on the top floor and at the end, so it was somewhere in the stairwell or roof area, but definitely outside my room. Also, any noise heard in the hallway (a door closing, someone talking, a sneeze) echoed into the room. Was displeased that such a new hotel had such thin doors. So I had to put in earplugs to sleep unfortunately. And it was too late to move rooms, and luckily just before midnight I was able to cancel my next night still and go to another Hilton the next day. In the morning, the hum was still there, on and off. Wasn't worth talking to the staff about because I was going to check out any way. So...bring your ear plugs if you want a good night's sleep. Didn't help that I was there on a Saturday night but still, the noise was intolerable.

It is a real shame because this is such a beautiful hotel, but management is so extremely unhelpful. My fiancĆ© accidentally left a valuable item in the room and immediately realized after we left. Each time we called, we were repeatedly told that it was up to housekeeping. ā€œCall housekeepingā€, ā€œLeave them a voicemailā€, ā€œSend them an emailā€. The only problem is housekeeping never responds. Still, regardless of communicating this problem with Clarissa, she responded with an off-putting tone, telling me there’s nothing she can do and reminding me that ā€œpatience is a virtueā€. Despite repeatedly calling and attempting to speak to different managers in the past couple days, I am told the same phrase; that it is up to a dead end department who never responds. To this day, the problem is still unresolved. Management views their customer service over as soon as you check out and appears uninterested in repeat guests.

There's a lot of good things going for this hotel. Number one, just about all the employees I spoke to were friendly and tried to do the best they could. So I appreciated that. I found the valet people, the front desk people, and the housekeeping people to be friendly and helpful. Next, the hotel overall seems pretty new, so that is a plus. It's clean, nothing seems really worn or out of service. It looks nice and modern. Finally, the bar on the roof has a great view. These are all positives. However, some issues bring it down for me. First, I think this is common to all new-ish built hotels, but it feels like it's built cheap. While it looks great, the walls are paper thin. I could hear conversations in the hallway. All night. Also, whenever the neighbors on either side of me raised or lowered their blinds, I could hear the scratching of the cords as they raised/lowered the blinds. Annoying. Though the view of the downtown skyline from my 6th floor room was great, the fact that I was right below the 7th floor bar meant that I heard The thump of the music until the bar closed at midnight. Not great. Also, the toiletries in the shower. I know the trend is reusable stapled-to-wall shampoo/conditioner these days, but the pumps didn't work on these bottles. I advised the front desk but they didn't fix them. I know they do this for environmental reasons but still- I don't care if I can't use the soap. This hotel was in a great location for my visit and I appreciated the many restaurants and bars nearby. Overall this should be a 3.5.

Worst experience I have ever had dealing with a Hotel. The concert I was going to in Detroit was canceled and I unfortunately did not find out until the night before my scheduled stay. I immediately called the Hotel to cancel and was told all was good. The next day the entire charge for the 2 rooms I had reserved hit my credit card. I called and spoke to the hotel and the manager told me that I canceled after their cancelation time and there was nothing she was willing to do, they have a strict cancelation policy. I understand a fee but the entire room rate? $654.30 for 2 rooms that no one stayed in and they knew about it the night before? I will never consider a Godfrey Hotel ever again.

I went for a playoff game and stayed because it was recommended by American Express. Due to the popularity of the playoff game and scarcity of hotels, the rate was $800+ per night. When I arrived at 4:30 pm, I needed to check in, take a shower and head directly to the game as the gates were opening at 5 pm. To my shock and surprise, I was told my room was not ready. Check-in is at 3 pm. They said housekeeping was not done. A couple came in after me be immediately got a room. They said I had to get the same type of room I booked. I said I’d take any room. After a half an hour, I finally got a room. The room was adequate, but was certainly not worth $800. I’ve never gotten to a hotel at 4:30 and had to wait to 4:50 pm for my room when check is at 3:00 pm. The service was not good. After that, I had no issues, but it’s definitely not a high end hotel.
