I enjoyed my experience at this hotel, the staff was really nice and accommodating, would definitely recommend & revisit. The food in the restaurant was pretty good, our waitress was really friendly she made sure everything went well with our meal.

The hotel is ok. Nothing special. The rooms are dingy looking. The bathroom fixtures need attention. The toilet roll holder is about to fall off the wall. The windows have a grungy film on the inside and outside. The worst thing is the hotel restaurant. The Trolley Room is terrible. The hotel welcomes service animals. There was a gentleman at the bar with his service dog. He gave the dog water in a plastic cup and it spilled. The bartender cut him off because of the spill. I was at the bar with my friendās husband having drinks and the bartender cut my friendās husband off. We werenāt doing anything besides sitting and watching the Red Wings game on tv. At 9:45 the kitchen closed with no warning. We were told kitchen was open Until 10:00. so people coming back from the wings game couldnāt get food, and even those of us at the bar didnāt have a chance to order a snack. The bartenders are rude, and ignore the patrons. I thought maybe it was just the bartenders at night, but nope. When we went down for breakfast the next morning the morning bartenders were no different. They walked by us sitting at the bar without acknowledging us, when we finally got their attention they acted like they didnāt hear us, but when we repeated to make sure they heard out order they were rude and said āI heard youā in a snarky way. The food was extremely slow to come out, and it wasnāt crowded there. Both visits to this restaurant the place was about half full. I could understand if they were packed and super busy, but they werenāt. They were just rude and slow. The food tasted ok. The tonic water tasted moldy. Find somewhere else to eat.

To quote the hotel's website, "With a nod to Motown, rock 'n roll, and the evolution of hip-hop, we've infused Detroit's musical heritage into every aspect of our hotel. From Motown-themed decor to mid-century modern furnishings and local art, you'll feel the rhythm of the city." Well, I can't say that I felt that rhythm. Nor did I notice that the musical heritage was infused into "every aspect" of the place. I DID notice an interesting wooden wall treatment above the beds in my room. And a few pieces of abstract art in the public spaces. But, if they're serious about portraying that musical heritage I suggest they try to be more deliberate about it, otherwise people might miss it. The room itself was comfortable: the bed was nice, the air handling worked well, the various lights all functioned, though the bathroom was small. Re the bathroom specifically, it took forever to get hot water from the basin tap or the shower. (I almost thought that it might never arrive.) Until I read the same complaint from other reviewers here, I thought that the situation might be isolated to my room. But since other guests had the same problem, one would think that the management would go out-of-their-way to find a fix for such an obvious issue. One more oddity, in my estimation, was this hotel's bar/restaurant--the so-called Trolley Room. My limited experience with it involved getting a late-night coffee, and oatmeal for breakfast. Both times the staff were attentive and cordial. Nevertheless, there was no obvious evidence in the decor or otherwise to justify the room's name. I'm aware that Washington Blvd. once hosted a tourist streetcar line. But since it was gone by 2003, and no one working at the hotel would possibly have any memory of it, that seemed like a pretty thin thread on which to hang the name. Speaking of the folks working there, check-in staff were pleasant and helpful, as were the valet parking guys, though the $40 charge struck me as a tad dear.

The room was spacious and clean. We did find it took a very long time for hot water - we actually didn't think there was any. Two of the outlets in the room didn't work. Don't eat at the restaurant - We had dinner when we arrived before we left for a show, we were lucky if we even got our drinks - the wait staff didn't come back to see if we needed anything or even to check if our food was good. We came down the next morning for breakfast. They had two people working, the entire restaurant was upside down, no clean tables etc. We asked if breakfast was still being served and the wait staff rolled her eyes and said yes. We had someone come and give us menus and ask if I wanted a coffee - which never came until I asked someone else. After our order was finally taken, we sat there with empty drinks and no food for an hour - I went to the front desk to ask when checkout was. When they told me it was 11am, I said we've been sitting in the restaurant for an hour and we have no idea if our food is even coming. The front desk staff was polite and came to see what was going on in the restaurant. She had the waitstaff check the kitchen and when they came back, they said the chef hadn't even started our order yet. We said don't bother and left.

Was in town for a redwings game from 9 hours away. Staff in the hotel were amazing, anything we called down for, they had up right away. Beds were comfy as were the pillows! The valet parking is NOT included in room rate, just something to keep in mind.
