Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown

It's a good hotel in the thick of Downtown Detroit. You could walk to Ford Field, Comerica Park, LCA or the theatres nearby. The room was nice and clean and the shower was great (high pressure and lots of heat if you want it). There is a breakfast buffet is available (for a charge) with a ton of hot and cold options. The food was good and perfect to start the day. There is only valet parking for a fee. We were on a tight schedule and looked briefly at the surrounding areas for other options and there wasn't much that we could find within a short walk (it was cold and I didn't want to park a few blocks away). The valet service was great and made sure we had our car quick and got us a luggage cart when we checked in. Overall this would be a great hotel if you're enjoying the downtown area (sports, casinos, etc).

The rooms here were clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly. There wasn't too much of a social ambience here, though. The gym was about as basic as hotel gyms come. This hotel has all of the basics, but lacks frills. I didn't eat here, so can't speak to the food quality.

We stayed at this hotel during the Detroit International marathon weekend. We have never been to Detroit before, and we wanted to be in walking distance of everything. For that purpose, this hotel excelled. You are an easy (~0.75 mile or less) walk to everything: the stadiums, Greektown/casinos, restaurants, stores, churches, the waterfront, and all race weekend activities. The staff at this hotel truly truly care about their property. They were helpful in every possible way. The greeted you when you came in, and they regularly asked about the stay. This property is undergoing a major renovation; new carpets and new fixtures were recently completed. Other areas are underway or planned. The room itself was OK. The mattresses were definitely worn, with one mattress sagging substantially. The bathroom tub fixtures were broken, and we had to remove the metal stopper in the tub ourselves. Remember how I mentioned the easy walk anywhere? It comes at a cost. Be prepared for street noise almost all night long, as people rev their engines as they atop at the corner, party trolleys blare music, and people stumble around drunk or yelling. These latter observations are not tge hotel's fault, but they are conditions that you should be aware of if you need sleep.

One of the most rundown hilton garden inn’s I have encountered. Breakfast is $17 and inedible. Room smelly like a wet dog. Stayed over the weekend and the room has no sound treatment whatsoever. Loud cars on parade outside all night, couldn’t sleep. Don’t stay here.
