Old Castillo Bed and Breakfast

After months of working and living through the Covid 19 quarantine, I needed a break. The only place I feel safe staying is the Old Castillo Inn. Peggy has employed a super cleaning regimen for the Inn while maintaining the comforting, homey feel I always find there. Peggy is, understandably, keeping a distance, but is still on the property and is always available by phone. No one is neglected at Old Castillo B&B. I spent two nights and was the only guest. The quiet and serenity was a welcome change from the hectic life we have all been living. Most of the attractions are closed, so I spent time sight seeing in the lovely small towns. As well as St. Martinville, there is New Iberia, Jenerette, Franklin, Breaux Bridge, and so many others. If you are looking for a quiet, restful place to just take a break, head to St. Martinville and the Old Castillo Bed & Breakfast.

We attended a family wedding. The B and N was close to the wedding venue and rehearsal supper venue. We never had to use of vehicles after we checked in We had a marvelous time. Rooms were wonderful and breakfast was terrific The B and B was close to Everything we needed Would highly recommend it

We were wanting to get away for the weekend and relax in a quaint B&B, and the pictures and reviews we read were perfect, and we were excited. So, we were disappointed when we arrived. The exterior needed pressuring (cob webs and dirt everywhere). Peggy seemed wonderful and very friendly when we met her and got our keys. The room was nicely decorated... but, you could tell it was needing some TLC. Baseboards were all scuffed up, cracks in the walls, and it needed painting. So, needless to say, this wasn’t the quaint and relaxing place we had wanted - within 30 minutes we decided to leave and go to a hotel for the weekend. However, I do have to say, this place is nicely situated in the city, along the bayou, and it could easily be a fabulous place with just a little care......

We enjoyed our visit. It was peaceful and sitting on the porch in the late evening was wonderful. Peggy is a jewel and made us feel right at home, like visiting an aunt. Breakfast was simple, but very delicious, our plates were empty. While there we ate at St. John’s seafood restaurant and highly recommend it as well. Since we were birders, we went to Lake Martin after dinner. We were also close to Avery and Jefferson Islands too.

Some others have written how friendly Peggy is; my wife and I absolutely agree! The B & B is immaculate, the location for visiting Avery Island (where Tabasco is produced) is perfect, and it is within an easy 2-block walk to St John -- a fine restaurant. I'm not the type to stay in a very small town like this for too long, but for our one-night visit it was a great choice.
