This property is beyond unclean. It is gross and not acceptable and I would never stay here again. The first room smelled of urine, had a dead roach and the tub was filthy. I asked to change rooms and the second one was only mildly better. I refused to eat there.

The room was dirty, had stains and smelled of urine. Lock was broken, no towels in the room. Curtains were stained. I had to lock the window as they weren't locked. It felt dirty and grimy. I couldn't shower as there were no towels. As I have said it was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel

For the past decade my family has stayed almost exclusively at Wyndham-brand hotels while traveling, with La Quinta being the most common specific hotel chain. We tend to book 2-3 star hotels and search for ones with the amenities of free parking, complimentary breakfast, and if possible, an operating pool. We just completed a five-night stay at the La Quinta in Gretna. Unfortunately, this was the most poorly operated hotel I have ever stayed in. I do not know if this is due to understaffing, poor staff training, poor management, or some other reason. It should be noted that my interactions with the employees were all pleasant, but the way the hotel is run leaves much to be desired. My standards for hotels are not particularly high, and I am not really bothered by things like dirt in the corners of bathrooms, paint chipping away, small holes in the walls, or the property being out of date. While the previous issues were true for the hotel, I donât really have a problem with them. My low opinion of the hotel started forming when I arrived at our hotel rooms to discover that it had no microwave and mini fridge, no towels, no trash can, and only a single partial roll of toilet paper in the room. No backup roll of toilet paper was available. One of the beds did not have a blanket and no spares were in the room. Additionally, but not as essentially, there were no facial tissues, no disposable cups, and no liner for the ice bucket. (The ice machines turned out to be broken anyway) When I asked for the fridge and microwave (which were supposed to come standard with each room), one was promptly brought up to our room. When we asked for towels, someone brought us towels. When I went to the front desk and asked for toilet paper, I was given one roll of toilet paper. All of my face-to-face interactions with the staff were cordial. The staff didnât bat an eye over the fact that our room didnât already possess these items, leading me to believe that inadequately stocked rooms are a pretty common occurrence there. Our rooms were maintained by housekeeping one time during our five night/four day stay. On that date our trash was taken out and the beds were made, but no new towels or toilet paper was provided. The rest of the days we took out our own trash. I did see lots of other rooms with bags of trash (with the trash being bagged in grocery store bags â not hotel trash bags) sitting just outside of the rooms, so perhaps the standard for this hotel was that the staff pick up the trash from the doorstop. But we were not told to do that at check-in, if that is in fact their system. We just took our trash to the larger trash cans near the edge of the property. There was an assortment of inconvenient and troublesome things regarding this hotel. Our hotel keys never unlocked the gate to the pool. We always had to find an employee to let us in. Breakfast was hit or miss. One day the syrup for the waffles was missing while we were there. Another day the muffins were not available at all. (Not that they had run out of muffins. Just that the muffins had never arrived from their supplier. I saw them arrive via delivery by a normal looking sedan about 30 minutes prior to the end of breakfast. The muffins did not get put out for breakfast for those remaining 30 minutes, but they were there the following day). Another day, the waffle mix was so runny that cooking them for the standard cook time was insufficient to cook them thoroughly. There was a lot of small trash and debris that littered the property. Several hotel guests smoked just outside of their rooms in the common breezeways, even though it's supposed to be a smoke free hotel. Neither of the two ice machines near our room worked. We didnât explore the entire property to see if any of the other ones worked. Larger maintenance issues: Our sink had a very slow drain. I had to bail the sink out multiple times in order to fill up water bottles without having the bottle get dunked into the gross sink water. The bathtub shower didnât entirely shut off, leading to a constant dripping sound. The plastic of the tub wasnât well adhered to the floor of the tub, leading to a feeling of teetering off balance while showering. Also, for the duration of our stay there was the constant annoying âlow batteryâ chirp of at least one smoke detector from one of the unoccupied rooms, which could be heard from the common courtyard areas, such as the swimming pool. The TVâs default to turning on at full volume, which is quite loud. Even if you turn off the TV with the volume at a low volume it will turn on at full blast the next time you watch TV. Pros: It was a well-situated hotel. It was close to the highway that takes you into New Orleans and easy to get onto that highway. There is a mall right in the same parking lot as well as several nearby eateries. The beds were comfortable and the linens seemed clean. I did not notice any bugs. I did not feel like I was in great danger of being assaulted while on the property. The vending machines and elevator did work. The employees were cordial and never acted like us requesting basic amenities (like towels) or access to the pool was a burden. There was ample parking. My kids enjoyed playing in the pool every day. After about a day of being on property we realized how low the standards of maintenance were. We felt like we would be a huge burden upon the (presumably overwhelmed or undertrained) staff having to ask after each and every little thing that had always come as basic standards in every other hotel we have ever stayed in. After that first day we just opted to be as independent as possible. We bought a big bag of toilet paper, took out our own trash, made our own beds, and used the same towels from swimming for showering as well. Again, the people were fine, but the way this hotel is operated is not up to the standards one would expect in the USA. I would never stay here again and I would not recommend it to anyone until they make some VERY serious changes.â

The breakfast was non existent and the room had a foul odor; but not from cigarettes just mold. However, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. Aside from the overwhelming mold smell the room would have been a 10. Having at least the basics for breakfast would have been nice ( fresh fruit or HOT/FRESH coffee

We had the worst room of the hotel. Smell awful, no working smoke alarm, no lamp covers, broken chair, not enough bed sheets, no refrigerator, no microwave. Check in too slow and we were traveling with 2 kids with special needs. Service and cleanliness not as expected for a Windham Hotel.
