Leavenworth Local Hotel

My sister and I were intrigued by the premise of staying in an old Catholic high school, and we weren't disappointed! Our room was HUGE and clean, with comfy beds. The hotel is located in a walkable area, which meant we could walk to dinner and breakfast.

What a unique and fantastic concept! This old catholic high school turned into a hotel made us feel like we were kids again! We could just picture the ghosts of Coach Moran and principal Jim Karlskint haunting the hallways of this historic old school. Great people. Great rooms. Great rates. Great location in Historic Downtown Leavenworth!

Several years ago, we had a very pleasant stay at the Schoolhouse Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Although wonderfully transformed, it still has something of the feel of the school it was built to be in 1861. What a happy surprise to find a similarly transformed school in Leavenworth, Kansas. It was built as Immaculata High in 1923. Now it's a trendy, even chic refuge for travellers. We needed two separate bedrooms, therefore reserved the penthouse suite. It's the former chapel, with a mid-century modern wall of stained glass. There is no restaurant, just a grab-and-go breakfast bar. Parking is free in the adjacent lot. Downtown Leavenworth is not exactly bustling but the area seemed safe. Proximity to Kansas City's MCI airport is a big plus. We were glad to stay here instead of in one of the charmless chains, and are pleased to recommend this place equally for business travellers as for vacationers.

Last minute find on our Kansas Kruise adventure! We knew we wanted to stay in Leavenworth and looked for something locally owned! Well The Local Hotel was just that! An old Catholic School transformed into a modern hotel! Very cool!! Owners are young and enthusiastic so we loved supporting the local effort! Rooms are spacious and accommodate a one night stay or an extended stay. Bed was super comfy! Big shower, wonderful A/C in these 100+ degree days! No pool or elevator, but we were fine without those amenities. Within walking distance to downtown eateries, winery and activities. Worth the price for sure! Grab n go quick breakfast, but we opted for having a lunch at the Fort. Recommend 10/10.

Customer service is top-notch and the staff is friendly. Rooms are spacious, beautiful and clean. All of my guests were comfortable and happy with all the accommodations. Check-in and check-out were easy.
