Comfortable and clean hotel-exactly what you would expect from a Fairfield Inn. The staff are competent. The neighborhood the hotel is in is mostly other hotels, fast food, and industry. Be prepared to drive or get delivery for something more interesting to eat. The hotel is about 9 minutes from the Eastern Iowa Airport.

The Cedar Rapids Fairfield Inn is exceptionally nice! I have stayed here a few times before and will do so again when I am passing through. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The property is always pristine so the rooms are always clean and comfortable. Also, the breakfast is always wonderful with a wide variety. I highly recommend staying here!

No warm welcome at check in. I just requested a room not by the elevator and she said I arrived too late. But she got me a room that wasn’t by the elevator, so she was just not wanting to be friendly/helpful. Breakfast was ok, the usual. Coffee was horribly weak. I asked for the breakfast guy to brew some coffee that was stronger, he just explained that he isn’t a coffee drinker. I left it at that. Went to the front desk to ask which exit was closest to McDonald’s, and she had earbuds in. She could hear me and directed me towards the easiest way to walk to McDonald’s. Earbuds are a big no if you’re supposed to be providing guest service. The hotel seems newly renovated, so rooms are very nice, beds very comfortable. Very noisy though, I could hear the girl next door coughing. And the stomping on the floor from above kept me awake until about 1am.

Worst Marriott we have ever stayed at. Ever. Do not stay here. Instead, drive to Des Moines, get a kwik trip nap, or stay at your uncle’s deer cabin. Bless. its. heart. I don’t even know where to start it was a dumpster fire. Room poorly maintained broken mattresses , dirty, sketchy unsafe location, hear train all night long. Did not sleep. Unsanitary breakfast. Late night arrival check in. Signs everywhere not to leave belongings in car she we cleared out car; it two luggage carts. The questionable loud erratics persons walking along street sidewalks and adjacent parking lot confirmed decision to take everything. Worried about our vehicle all night. Lucky to get last spot in the hotel lot before having to find somewhere else. Did not feel safe. Asked for bedding for pull out sofa but had to return for another sheet and pillow cases. This is when she should have said oh by the way you don’t want to sleep in that wanna be pull out how about I switch you to this dbl queen so you can actually sleep. Room: Dark and dingy. Only one sorry sad lamp. Overhead entry lamp burned out light bulbs. This is the beginning of every cold case. Thermostat literally had scotch tape holding it together. Bathroom tiles cracked grout missing, shower had mold and red algae everywhere. Pull out sofa is worthless, it’s a small 5ft twin and BROKEN. Could not even sit on it because a spring poked you. My daughter had to sleep on the small sofa without enough room to stretch out. The king mattress was so worn out we woke multiple times with numb arms and aching necks. Mini fridge did not have freezer section so could not freeze our ice packs. Ice machine on 2nd floor didn’t work. Usually I wouldn’t bother mentioning a crummy mini freeze… but all together just why? Unfriendly to allergy sufferers. Could not get feather free pillows, front desk girl, while nice and she tried bless her heart but she didn’t know what a non feather pillow was. I was downstairs at 12:30 am trying to find out what to do about broken sofa mattress and no pillows to sleep on. An assistant manager came in wearing a of food and cigarettes. Horrified by unprofessional appearance of the off duty‘manager’ Told the girl to go check other rooms for pillows. Since she made it clear she was off duty and the night staff girl did not know what a non feather pillow was so at 12:45am I was going room to room with her trying to find feather free pillows. We found one and later she brought two more but one was still feathers. Bless. She tried she really did. Upon reading reviews while laying in sagging bed I learned multiple people complained about the sofa bed going back months, so management KNOWS about the broken beds!! Morning: The foam ‘pillows’ were so flat and mattress so broken we hurt and ache everywhere. Nobody slept between the loud train, dust, and broken mattresses and pillows, we are all exhausted and have an 8 hour drive home. In such a hurry to leave once daylight arrived and could see the horror of dirt algae and disrepair I left my favorite pajamas. Something kept beeping like it was low on battery but we could not find it. We did inspect room for hidden cameras but worried now that we missed one. Breakfast: breakfast egg sandwiches frozen. Yes frozen! They ran out of waffles and it was not busy. When we asked for more we were rudely told there were no more. Same kitchen staff person handling food with bare hands!! wiping counters with bare hands!! she had 2inch long fake nails, long long hair swinging around. I made my daughter stop eating and left as soon as we could. The coffee was drinkable. Checkout: Upon sharing all of this with front desk girl when checking out she said she would tell her manager but did not seem surprised or concerned in the slightest. I could see the manager in the office and she could hear us but did not care enough to come out. Marriott if you’re reading this consider taking your name off the building and selling this one off. Wish we had driven further to stay at Hilton property like we usually do.

Our room was ready before we arrived (per the Bonvoy app) - seems no mobile key here so we stopped by the desk before going up to our room. The room was plenty big enough for my daughter and I with two queen beds. Sadly the trash in the room had been left from the previous occupant but otherwise, everything was neat and tidy. The beds were comfortable enough and the bathroom was a tub/shower combo. No exhaust fan to speak of so it got a bit steamy during the shower. The breakfast the next morning was as you'd expect - cereal, toast/pastries, oatmeal, eggs and bacon and some quiche dish. Coffee, milk, juice. It was definitely enough to suit our needs. Not the largest eating area but it wasn't busy so no issues. My only real complaint with the room was that the blackout curtains cannot be drawn at night - they are installed so they are fixed open around the window AC unit. So we enjoyed a nice bright room at 530 am with the sunrise (even after cinching them closed some with a clothes hanger from the closet). Oh and no USB charging ports in the room so be sure you have AC power for whatever you need to charge. It was a slightly older hotel but clean enough and comfortable. There is a Subway directly across the street that you could walk to and plenty of restaurants/gas stations nearby. It was about a 10 minute drive to CID airport and free parking. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again, although next time I might seek out a hotel where I could have a darker room to sleep.
