Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile

We recently stayed one night at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Chicago, although we originally booked for four. The location appeared ideal, and the photos and reviews on TripAdvisor looked promising—but unfortunately, our experience did not live up to expectations. We had a one-bedroom suite on a high floor. The “living room” faced the interior of the hotel, which meant there was no natural light, and the overall decor felt quite dated. One of the first things we noticed was the lack of staff for a hotel of this size. The hallways and common areas were poorly maintained, with trash left outside of rooms, chips scattered around, and even a sneaker sole lying in the hallway. The hotel has four elevators, but we consistently had to wait 5–10 minutes each time we needed to use one. Often, we had to ride up just to come back down due to overcrowding. The pool was small and packed, which we could deal with—but the real issue came during breakfast after our first night. While eating, someone poured water down from one of the upper floors, soaking our table and another one nearby with small children. I reported it to the front desk immediately, but the staff seemed unsure how to handle it and only mentioned they’d send someone to investigate. After that incident, I no longer felt safe. With open access to upper floors and little supervision, it seemed entirely possible that someone could throw something much more dangerous. I didn’t want to risk my children’s safety. Ultimately, we checked out early and will not be returning to this hotel in the future.

Overall, the hotel is a very good value. It is very well located, the rooms are large and spacious, and the amenities such as the free breakfast, free nightly reception, pool and gym are a huge plus. The free breakfast was decent, as was the free nightly drink at the bar. However, housekeeping and maintenance needs to do much better. My daughter was sleeping on the food out couch. When we first set up the bed, there were candy bar crumbs and wrappers in the bed. Clearly housekeeping did not change the sheets on the bed prior to our arrival. Additionally, our toilet wouldn’t flush, and we had to call for a maintenance worker 3 or 4 times before it was finally fixed on the last day of our trip. Do better Embassy Suites!! We had also requested that housekeeping come daily, but they only came once during our 3 night stay. Our overall experience was positive, so I would still recommend it, as long as housekeeping and maintenance is improved.

Great Stay at Embassy Suites Magnificent Mile! The staff was amazing, especially Ozel, who works with HGV (I didn’t even know that was separate from the hotel side of Hilton!). He went above and beyond to make us feel right at home—truly made our experience special. The hotel is clean, spacious, and right in the heart of everything. Shopping and restaurants are just a short walk away. The breakfast was delicious, with lots of options to choose from. Overall, definitely a 5-star experience! Highly recommend staying here.
