Holiday Inn Carbondale Conference Center an IHG Hotel

The parking lot was totally packed full at "The Landings" instead of the Holiday Inn. Don't open the building for reservations if it has dangerous equipment in the rooms, unanswered repairs that affect the entire building and anyone who gets to work an entire shift. The bed is nice and the area is in a somewhat quiet area away from the retail shopping centers. It might be interesting to think about whether Illinois loaded up on too many "safety" initiatives where it might be a catastrophic backfire.

After having a reservation for 9 months, the hotel arbitrarily cancelled it 5 days prior to my arrival because they were overbooked. It is Parents weekend, and they instituted a 2-day minimum stay after the fact. They did not have the decency to call me and advise me. I received a cancellation email. The closest hotel they were offering me was 3 1/2 hours away in Nashville Tennessee. I was left on my own. They refused to reinstate the reservation and after many complaints they tried to extort me and said they would let me have the room if I took it for 2 nights at $200.00 a night. Beware during college events this hotel is very shady. 9 months ago, I had many options for hotels, they waited 5 days prior, and everything is sold out in the area. The management staff pulled a very sleazy move. I should have been notified when I booked the hotel 9 months ago.

If you're rolling with trailers or bigger rigs, watch out for some limited rear parking this summer. It's immediately next to gas and a Culver's to not even go far. This hotel had a nice caring staff, and I'm sure they each individually care for the comfort of everyone. I think the personalization data practices used in some hotel chains, including this nice IHG one in Carbondale --- you're doing too much. A lot of what people do is conscientious and pragmatic. Still, I think you're doin too much. Perhaps the customer apps need some more opt-out options for data collection, or perhaps some disclosure on how much OTHER GUESTS could have their personal preferences tailored further, compared to my disdain for extra data collection. Some options are already available if you login I think. This is just a single person's opinion.

We stayed at this hotel almost 3 weeks due to a family emergency. The staff was exceptional and able to accommodate our ever changing departure date. Although not many services were available due to ongoing renovations, we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend.

I switched to this hotel after a terrible stay at the Hampton next door. My experience here was night and day - wonderful. The young lady at the front desk in the evenings (Asian) is warm, welcoming, attentive, and so friendly. The lobby and rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast could use a facelift; however, they are in their transition from a Holiday Inn to a HI Express so understandable and not as important to me. Recommended.
