Best Western Oglesby Inn

This is an annual rest stop as we return north from Florida. Always, welcoming, always clean, always quiet. Conveniently located off I39 within a couple blocks, and has restaurants from McDonald's to local family dining within a minute or two of the hotel.

Room was good except the heater/air conditioner would not change the temperature much. Serious bathtub step in hold onto the safety bar. Eggs and microwave bacon had no flavor. Ice machine was fine and they did have good coffee there. Bread was getting stale.

Booked a standard king bed room online, arrived and was was told only the ADA room was available. The room was dirty, Old socks from a previous guest under the bed, hair in the shower.. moved to another,. 2nd room, stains on the bed skirts,...I shudder to think what substance that might have been. Multiple rooms rented by a group of people who stayed out in the hallway yelling back and forth down the hall till well after midnight. No attempt at all by hotel staff to make them be quite. I had to go out and confront them myself. The staff simply doesn't care about the experience,..and needs to do some quality control inspections before handing over the key cards to a room. This place is awful.

We have stayed at this Best Western frequently during the past year and it is always a satisfactory experience. It’s not a fancy-schmancy high end hotel, but deserves five stars within its class of hotel. The rooms are consistently very clean, without bad odors, including no over powering scented cleaning product odors like in some hotels. Recent updates include new door locks and fresh paint. The rooms are generally quiet, with adequate amenities—lg flat screen tv, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer, alarm clock, phone, iron and board—and all in clean, working order. The beds are a little soft—in a pillow top manner, not an old, saggy manner. They are not like the beds that swallow you up, so you can’t move, though, which is a good thing! The mobility rooms and bathrooms are spacious, with plenty of grab bars in the bathroom. Bath chairs are available. Breakfast is decent, typical fare, but could be improved by offering bacon, or sausage. Unless its a national holiday, the only meat choice is sausage patties on the microwavable Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, which are not so good. The eggs are edible, though, and there’s a waffle machine, along with yogurt, fruit, and other starchy options. We have not used the small indoor pool, but it looks clean, and likewise for the exercise room. Staff responds to any (minor) issues immediately. Compared to other nearby hotels, this one is a very good value for a safe, clean, well-kept place to stay.

I voiced my concerns at checkout. I mentioned that when I entered my room 102, I immediately noticed a musty odor coming from the air conditioner. From my past experience, this odor is from the air conditioning filter, which is filled with dirt &/or mold. I immediately turned the air conditioning off, and sprayed the room with air neutralizer spray to rid the room of the odor. The man at the front desk said there have no complaints before, and that the room isn’t used often, usually 1 or 2 nights at a time. In my opinion this is a sign of total disrespect. Seriously, I am not a young adult that doesn’t know better. I have many years of travel experience that support my comment. Also, the wall by the coffee maker was covered in stains. The room itself had many areas that should be spot cleaned. The liner under the boxspring was torn and hanging down towards the floor. After stating all of this, I was disappointed that the desk manager was no apologetic nor was I offered any compensation for the lack of cleanliness of the room and poor air quality.
