Sonesta Simply Suites Des Moines

Room was clean and up to simply suites standards. But there was poor customer service at the front desk from both of the agents I spoke with, they lack both personal responsibility and the drive to do their job better.

My wife and I spent a night here driving from Michigan home to Colorado. When we arrived, I realized I'd reserved the wrong night. The front desk person helped us out, found a room for the same rate, and got us checked in no problem. The room was great - separate bedroom and complete kitchen. It was clean and quiet. The hotel also has a ton of stuff you can borrow (like waffle makers and games). I'd definitely recommend the place!

Room not a "suite" at all! Very small room. Calling the hotel "Simply Suites" not accurate NO vending machines for drinks or snacks! NO ice machine! Dated furniture Room dark due to low wattage light bulbs Not a good value at all.

Just beware - two days before my reservation, they called to tell me that they are an extended stay hotel and several of their current hotel guests decided to 'extend' their stay....therefore, they don't have a room for me anymore. What? Apparently a reservation means nothing. How about telling THOSE guests 'sorry - we are already booked?' Is it possible that my rate was lower and they figured they could get more from those guests?? Shady. So I'm left to find a different hotel two days before arrival. Not cool. I will never stay at a Sonesta because of this experience.

We were getting tired of fast food so we chose Candlewood Suites so I could cook dinner. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook a steak dinner. After a quick trip to the excellent Hy-Vee Grocery store nearby we were all set. The room was clean, the bedding clean and comfortable. There is no breakfast served, but none was advertised. There was a large gym which I'll admit I didn't use. The location was excellent for us as we traverse I-80 heading west.
