AC Hotel by Marriott Gainesville Downtown

Quick and easy valet service upon arrival, friendly staff on check-in nice quiet room on a high floor. Lobby Bar was fun and busy. To me, this is a typical high volume large College Hotel it was clean, but things are kind of worn in certain spots. The pool area needed a good cleaning and is not heated. The breakfast area is unique and only adequate. If you drive, leave your car at the hotel and take a Lyft to get around campus as parking is a premium and traffic is pretty wild at times.

I was checking into the hotel with my teenage son and had a confirmed two queen room. I am a high level of loyalty at Marriott (ambassador). Sam or Samantha at the front desk told me they only had king rooms available. I asked for a rollaway bed. She didn’t say sorry. Just said no. I asked if there was another Marriott they could put me in. She didn’t say sorry. Just said no. I asked to speak to a manager. She didn’t say sorry. Just said no. She said no managers were on property. I asked her to call one. She told me the manager would tell me the same thing. She had the worst attitude I have ever encountered in a front desk person. She eventually called a manager and when I asked to speak to the manager she refused. She went into the back office for a very long time and was extremely rude condescending and sarcastic when she came out. She was trying to bait me into some kind of fight but I wouldn’t engage. She was so disrespectful. She belongs working at the department of motor vehicles, not in the hospitality industry. Guess what? Shockingly not shockingly of course there was a 2 queen bed room that her manager told her to release to me. I wound up getting what I wanted but she made it 100% clear that if it were up to her she wouldn’t have given me that room. The room lobby and gym was nice and the location to UF was great!

Pros: hotel is convenient to UF and many restaurants; front desk was welcoming and quick. Cons: room was basic; housekeeping issues (broken reading light, slimy gunk on faucet, stained wall, fuzzballs, hair on the toilet, shattered elevator panel mirror in hallway); valet parking only. Seemed like a party hotel that needed a deep clean.

House keeping was poor and the food (breakfast) was boring (same menu every day). Had to remind them every day to do basic cleaning. They never made any attempt to improve on the food even after complaining about the same. Though their rooms are quite spacious, they need to work on their services.

Very disappointed we went to tour University of Florida. The hotel was conveniently located, and moderately priced. So we were excited. However the experience was horrible, both our stay and the way we were treated by the manager. The room had no air conditioning during a heatwave, it was in the high nineties and the had no other rooms we complained and they provided a fan. It was difficult trying to get any rest. We complained to the manager Matt the following morning and he apologized and offered to comp the room to make up for the poor conditions, however because we used points he needed to determine how he could resolve the issue. Since then I have called a half a dozen times. Matt the manager won't take or return my calls. So much for hospitality in the hospitality industry. Mechanical issues happen I can forgive that, but the lack of professionalism and customer service is unacceptable.
