After staying at this ā€œhotel,ā€ I understand better why the good ones in the vicinity sell out quickly. The quotes around ā€œhotelā€ are strategic. It’s a motel. Our first impression was to flee, but we had already booked and paid for it. Check-in confirmed our initial impression when the receptionist asked if we needed a TV. Need a TV? Doesn’t our ā€œsuiteā€ have a TV? Apparently, not all of them do. The stairway to the second floor consisted of a steep set of cracked cement stairs so tiny that my size 10 ½ shoes struggled to climb. An older person or anyone with stability issues could not reach the second floor. As you enter the room, you wish you would have turned around and hopped back into your vehicle. Inside our suite, the horrible review continues. After turning on the air conditioning, which did a fine job cooling the room, there was a strange smell we could not identify. Scanning the room, I was surprised to find a grasshopper perched upon the bedspread. I removed it and released it back into the wild. Thank you, Red Roof Inn, for a life-long anecdote. The inspection of the space continued with one disgusting discovery after another. The towels were either stained or dirty. Upon looking beneath the pillowcases, you could see apparent blood stains. The bedspread and linens did not appear clean. The furniture was mismatched, old, and disgusting. The remote control to the optional TV was so dirty and sticky that I washed my hands after changing channels. I decided not to turn on the TV in the morning to avoid the remote. The bathroom functioned well, although we found it difficult to survive with a tiny bar of soap that we shuttled back and forth between the shower and the sink. Despite a small kitchen area, we did not open the refrigerator door. We didn’t want to eat anything in that suite. We should have put more effort into researching this place before booking it. The negative reviews we read are faithful to our experience. After a one-night stay, it is obvious how deceptive the pictures are. They do not reflect reality. We would not recommend this place since our collective mantra in the morning was, ā€œWe survived.ā€

The pictures on their website are definitely not from this hotel. We had 7 rooms booked for family and friends after a wedding. I haven’t stayed in a place like this in a very long time. The stale smoke smell room was complemented by dirty floors, stained sheets, a bathroom sink held up with two random pipes for legs, a complimentary cockroach in a kitchenette cabinet. Worn mismatched falling apart furniture and a bathroom door that said it all. Something wanted out of that bathroom only to be upstaged by whatever wanted in. Pictures below. The cockroach did run off and we never found it so if you do decide to stay here and they give you room 113, check the cabinets. I think he lives there. And keep any food products in the refrigerator. That way if the critter has friends your food will be ok. The room was so nasty on so many levels. Sleeping in your car would be a better option!

After an incredible trip in New York and Connecticut, we spent our last evening in America at the Red Roof Inn Guilford Connecticut. The overall experience was terrible. There were hairs in our beds, reception never answered the phone despite calling several times, but worst of all was the bathroom which was literally covered in mould and smelt horrific. Putting on the extractor fan was not an option because it was so excessively loud that we couldn't hear each other speak over the noise. Despite a notice in their information book saying:"Not wowed by your stay? We'll make it right" I contacted customer service with my complaint - to which they replied - Thanks we'll look in to it - and we hope to see you again. If you don't plan on doing anything with a clients feedback, why even bother with the notice. Needless to say, we got hardly any sleep and paid the equivalent of R5000 (ZAR) for an awful nights stay before a very long trip back to South Africa. What a terrible experience to end off our otherwise fantastic holiday.

The location is convenient and pet friendly, both positive and the reason the hotel was selected. The rooms and buildings are very worn and in need of attention. The ceiling had several dark spots, hopefully not mold. Housekeeping attended to the room one of the two nights. The room was musty and had a urine smell. While in the room we had to keep the windows open.

As others have written - we didn’t expect a deluxe room but this place was pretty bad. We checked in late evening and there were dirty towels and a mop on the upstairs landing as if housekeeping never finished. The room we got had that smell to it that others have mentioned. The room was very spare with mismatched chairs and a dirty couch. The kitchen had very little value with nothing - and I mean nothing to make use of ( yes I read how you have to ask but come on) Not a spoon or cup or paper towel to be seen. The bathroom was newer and clean. Worst thing was dirty bed linens - both yellow and red stains - gross and really unsanitary. Loud fighting in nearby room (not hotel’s fault.) Finally - door latch for security was not functional and falling out. Sorry I would NEVER go back or recommend this place. No way.
