Our best visit and hotel experience in the beach San Diego area yet. In the past weāve been a block up off the beach so the Surfer Beach Hotel offers the experience of walking right out to the boardwalk/ sand which we loved. Mercedes at the front desk was so sweet, welcoming and helpful. We stayed on the north side second floor with a partial Oceanview from the door but had an even better view from the balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. The room was spacious, shower was great and the beds were soooo comfortable. We canāt wait to come back.

We chose this hotel for the price and location. Knew that it wouldnāt be fancy. Upon arrival we were greeted with friendly staff. Unfortunately, at no fault of the hotel, our room smelled of vomit when we entered. It was clearly from the previous guest. It was coming from between the beds. The staff felt terrible and notified management right away. An attempt was made to clean the area, which did improve the smell, but it was still there along with wet carpet. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. They ended up upgrading our room at no charge and our next room smelled fresh and clean. This hotel has the most helpful and friendly staff Iāve ever experienced at a hotel.

One of the worst hotel experiences Iāve ever had. As a native San Diegan who lived in Pacific Beach for 15 years, I urge you to stay anywhere else on the beach. We paid over $400 a night and it felt more like a really bad motel than a relaxing visit back to our home town. Right from the start, our beds were full of sand. When we asked for clean bedding, we were told housekeeping had gone homeāfor the dayāat 2 PM. They eventually dropped off sheets for us to change ourselves. The entire room was filthy: sand all over the floors, the bathroom, and the showers. It clearly hadnāt been cleaned at all. We were on the bottom floor and could hear everything from the room aboveāpeople walking, running, dragging furniture around all night long. Zero soundproofing. As if that wasnāt enough, our ābalconyā area had no divider, so strangers (including unsupervised children) constantly sat in our chairs just outside our sliding door. It made the stay uncomfortable and robbed us of any privacy. We couldnāt even enjoy the sun or the tiny, overcrowded pool area. And then came the worst part: on Friday morning, the sinks spontaneously burst and spewed foul-smelling, sulfur water all over the floor and our belongings. I ran to the front desk because no one answered the phone. Thankfully, the maintenance man was kind and helped clean up. But when I told the manager how awful the smell was, he literally shrugged and walked away. To top it all off, the rooms look nothing like the photos online. Itās a complete bait-and-switch. When we asked for a room change or even a partial refund for the water damage, we were told no. The front desk guy just shrugged again and asked if we wanted our bill then or at checkout. No apology. No accountability. Do yourself a favorādonāt waste your time or money here. There are much better places to stay in San Diego.

Murder scene on the mattress, tiny tiny shower for a āfamily suiteā I couldnāt imagine having to bathe an infant or toddler the shower was 2ā wide by 3ā deep and no tub! Filthy bathroom, I used the bath towel to mop up the water after a shower and it turned brown, spit up still on the sink, spilled drink in the headboard, so so basic and old. Needs new everything, very misleading reviews and pictures. After one night we switched to a different hotel because this hotel was literally depressing and ruining our vacation.

As teachers on a budget, we found this gem of a place almost 25 years ago. The ocean viewis spectacular. Love watching surfers & people. We park the car, and never move it until we check out. Everything is within walking distance, now that we have already checked out the city. The staff is extremely helpful & sweet. GO!
