Hampton Inn & Suites Salinas

Awful customer service, manager had a terrible tone as we were booking through Trip Advisor. The discrepancies in rooms were then blamed on us and only after talking to them did they own up to their mistakes and fix the rooms. We were traveling with kids and they told us to be quiet even though they took forever to figure out the rooms and quiet hours were after 10. Placed the blame on Trip Advisor and had an attitude for the rest of the interaction.

I typically stay at Hilton brand hotels (gold member) and they are generally quite good. This one seemed tired and in need of a physical refresh. In addition, the staff at reception were not real helpful or friendly. They also have an unusual policy of charging guests $75 extra if they arrive prior to 4pm! That does cause quite a line at reception right after 4pm with everyone that has been waiting until 4pm to check in. There is an underground secure parking garage for about a dozen cars in addition to the open lot.

Staff, 5 stars. Friendly and accommodating. Room. 4 1/2 stars. Clean. Comfortable. The shower head has seen better days. Time to replace. Soft towels. Location: 2 stars. The hotel has a freeway homeless camp behind it. And its neighboring building is a converted hotel that helps get homeless folks off the street and into housing. That’s a wonderful thing but not really where I want to stay and feel safe. I was concerned about my car since there were signs posted everywhere in the hotel suggesting your car is likely to get broken into if you leave anything in it. There’s a secure parking structure under the hotel that gets locked at midnight and opened at 5am.

Stayed here for 5 days to volunteer at the AT&T Pro Am. The rooms were clean, roomy and modern. The hot breakfast was very nice and had a variety of items daily. The bed was comfortable and didn't hurt my back. Parking was outside and underground which was good when it was raining. I wish it was closer to shopping and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.

The worst breakfast options of any Hilton Property I have stayed at. No hard boiled eggs, nothing fresh except apples, coffee and hot water not available at 6 am when breakfast ready. Gym had minimal midls matched equipment with no option to adjust the temperature in the small gym area that got really warm with 4 people in it: no housekeeping offered and room not serviced.
