One would expect hotels in Palm desert to be at least somewhat upscale, after it is the home of the family El Paseo shopping and dining dist. The Embassy Suites is very close to El Paseo so I guess it scores points in that respect. The lobby is nice enough but it goes downhill from the. For an area surrounded on both sides with tall fencing and empty parking lots, they charge for parking in their half empty parking lot, you don't pay for parking in the fancy shopping district just up the street. In order to get from the parking area into the hotel courtyard you must go through a steel prison style gate that was propped open with rocks or bits of broken bricks the whole time I was there so you wouldn't have to use your key card. I would close the gate when I would go through but when I got back to the gate someone had propped it open again. There is a large open courtyard around which the rooms are arranged and the pool, fitness center and restaurant are. While the pool is open, the restaurant appears to have been closed for a long, long time. The landscaping was composed of neglected sand, trash bins with no bags and dead plants. Two of the elevators were put off service and from what I could find there was one ice machine present for the whole hotel. There were places marked for ice machines but there were no ice machines. Despite the fact that there is a large courtyard the rooms have outward and look over the parking lot, the room doors face the courtyard. The room was okay although the couch had several stains and frayed edges, not a great look. When you book the room description says that the room has a balcony and has a picture from the inside of a sliding door and a balcony. When you get to the room you realize that the sliding door opens 2 inches but has a stop bolted into the frame so you can't open it any more. The balcony is a faux balcony about 8 inches deep that is obviously not accessible. Since you can't get out to the balcony neither can housekeeping so the sliding door has whatever grime and bird poop that collects on it over time. The sliding door glass is also deeply tinted so your room is very dark even at mid day. This entire hotel is dirty inside and out and I decided to stay one night of the two that I booked. It has no business being part of the Hilton family or at the least needs some serious updating and corporate attention. Started by cleaning up the courtyard and parking lot and go from there.

This property is not worth the money. First of all, I want to say that the staff at this place were very nice - they just have to deal with a property that Hilton has somehow abandoned. Hilton has let this property decay. It was so bad. Digital key never worked. The A/C in our room did not work. We were moved to another room. The sink did not drain. There were no lightbulbs in one lamp. The refrigerator did not work and had to be replaced. The outlet in the bathroom was broken. Housekeeping one day never bothered to make the bad. Will never stay there again. Shame on Hilton.

Room was just OK. The hotel was not near capacity, and I was given the room directly in front of the jacuzzi that had some people up late and loud. My room was also mobility access for some reason so had to bend down to shower? I have stayed here before for business in the area and didn't have any issues.
