Residence Inn by Marriott Newark Silicon Valley

Stayed 4 days 3/28-4/1. Had recently had a good experience at Residence Inn Pleasanton a few weeks prior. The one in Newark, while looking very similar and with an almost identical layout to the rooms, is just suffering from disrepair due to the age of the rooms. Toilet handle was on verge of falling off, lights in room were very dim with a difficult lack of light above the sink in kitchen. Lastly, the windows in the rooms on the front of property are badly bubbled, making the view outside poor.

Check in was quick and easy! Staff members are very friendly and accommodating and there is even a Starbucks in the lobby. Rooms are very clean I had a great stay here will definitely be coming back. Had a great time with the staff and all the amenities.

Sigh. Two stars because the check-in/check-out person (same individual since I checked out after 5 1/2 hours) was so friendly. The musty smell people describe is real. I can get over that. The burned out RV in the parking lot covered in graffiti is a little off putting but whatev. The parking lot felt dark and unsafe, but I was more worried for the safety of my rental than for myself. But I draw the line at cleanliness. Dead bug in fridge, live one in my room. I couldn’t identify it but fat, red and the size of an appleseed gave me shivers. Tap out.

I booked 3 rooms for my family at this hotel. I had stayed at same hotel for a week in August and it was a little bit worn, but the service and staff were great. A week in December 2024 was a whole other thing. Kinda awful. We tried to check in on Christmas Day for our 2-Bedroom Suite and other 1 bedroom rooms. We had paid in full for all our rooms in advance. The agent just remarked: "We don't have any 2 Bedroom Suites." She offered 2 studio rooms (cheaper and smaller) with no adjustment to our pre-paid amount. Ugh. After a long time, she agreed to give us 2 separate, 1-BR rooms. Not what we reserved, confirmed, paid for or anything. No apology. No explanation. And a very long wait. Never a smile or human connection. The "included" breakfast was awful. This was in stark contrast to the nice breakfasts I'd had on my August visit. There was no juice, no yogurt, no fruit, no actual food, and believe this: No plates!!!! It was impossible to eat there. We had to go out for breakfast and pay elsewhere. Rip-off. For our entire stay, there was a car in the parking lot, right in front, that had been vandalized -- window broken out with broken glass scattered all over the area. The car just sat there for the whole week. We avoided walking or driving on all the glass which was never cleaned up or cordoned off. It certainly gave the air of being an unsafe and unmaintained area. My brother's room was near a section of the hotel on the 4th floor that was closed off for renovations. When we entered the room, it smelled awful. Smelled like skunk-rot or something quite overpowering. He froze at night because had to keep the windows open to breathe. When we were checking out, a more helpful Front Desk person told us the hotel had suffered a flooding due to vandalism a few months earlier and had struggled to get repairs done. That explains the closed off 4th floor and probably the overwhelming stink in my brother's room. She also told us that many of their 2-Bedroom Suites were flooded out and unavailable. It would have been nice if they informed us of that when we reserved, before our arrival, or not kept us standing at the desk for 45 minutes while they insisted on giving us lousier and cheaper rooms. As to the awful/non-existent breakfast with no plates, she told us that they had fallen behind of vendor payments, so vendors had been refusing to deliver to them. Like no plates or food! This property seems to be in a severe state of decline with financial problems. Although I had very good stays previously, I cannot recommend anyone risk staying here now.

Excellent hotel, comfortable and spacious. My room had a very well-equipped kitchen. The breakfast was standard American style, which I found simple. The internet was excellent. The location was close to the company I work for, so it was very convenient. If I were traveling for tourism, perhaps another area would be better, but for business, it is excellent. I was able to walk to supermarkets, restaurants, and some popular stores. I would stay there again.
