Murphys Inn Motel

We had stayed here about 5 years ago. This is a great location entering Murphys Main Street. It is an older hotel but the rooms are big and they are clean. The shower was great. I had asked for a two o’clock check in on a Tuesday. We arrived a little after two and there was one car in the parking lot. Took awhile for someone to come to the front desk, but we were then told to come back, the room wasn’t ready…ok, no big deal…we came back about 30 mins later and got the room keys…as we walked down the hall way, the doors to the other rooms were all open and none of the rooms were made up…it was a nice warm day and we thought we could sit by the pool, but the pool was closed for the winter, with an extra sign saying the county environmental department has commended the pool for several serious health reason…so that was disappointing because their outdoor space was closed. We decided to only stay two days instead of three, but the desk person told me I would have to wait until the morning because she couldn’t take care of my request…ok, again no big deal…the next day, the cancellation process was accomplished and when we came back to our room later in the afternoon, the room key didn’t work. Again, the front desk fixed it, but this was the second time the key had to be changed. If we had returned after 9:00pm, we would not have been able to get into the hotel….I wasn’t sure if we would have housekeeping, but when I realized we didn’t, there was no problem getting towels, soap and coffee from the front desk. This morning we noticed that the stopper to the sink was missing, I would have thought housekeeping would have reported this …..so our stay wasn’t a disaster, we had fun and the motel was not one we would use again.

The town of Murphy is such a gem. A charming place to wander the Main Streets of quality lifestyle shops, restaurants and a handful of wine tasting venues. An easy place to be in. Apparently very busy at the weekend as the place fill up with people coming over for the bars and wine tasting. The hotel was very clean. Extremely comfy beds and sheets. A great shower and the swimming pool is a added bonus. Just round the corner is a supermarket and a fab Wholefoods store for making picnics.

We have stayed at this motel periodically over the years and the new owners have remodeled nicely BUT….There is literally nobody at the front desk from 9 pm to 9 am. We were in town for a meeting and one of our friends accidentally locked himself out of his room. He had to spend the night in another friend’s room because there was nobody to give him another room key. We witnessed a couple that came in late after a long flight and couldn’t check in because there was nobody to check them in. Can you imagine what might happen if there was a plumbing leak, you run out of TP, or there’s a fire? I’ve stayed in a lot of unusual motel situations but there was always a way to get in touch with someone in charge. We will be staying down the road at the newer motel for future meetings.

Employees were nice and pleasant. Room was clean but extremely dark and the decor throughout was very dated. The keycard for the door kept failing. Not sure if it was the cards themselves or the door lock because each time we went to the front desk to have them reprogrammed it would work once and then fail again repeatedly. That was super annoying.

Do not stay here! Here is my list of (as well as many other guests) complaints: -Noisy at night from nearby road -Thin walls, could here people above and next door at all hours -I didn't feel very comfortable with the cleanliness (glad I had slippers) -The front desk staff was out taking a break at the pool (kinda odd) -No office staff in evening/early morning??? (made me feel very uneasy) The Owner Raj does not care about customer service whatsoever, so good luck if there are any issues. Raj was in India for several weeks and even after he returned never returned any of my several messages via phone and email regarding a ~$300 overcharge. I was told by office staff that he had no intentions of refunding the amount I was overcharged. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere to avoid a HUGE headache.
