My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Nicholson House. Despite the absence of an in-person reception desk, there was absolutely no issue with check-in or check-out~it was super easy. Our room was a Deluxe Queen (#5) and it was very nicely appointed. When we checked in there were Madelines as well as a decanter with bourbon, freshly ground coffee with a French press, an electric kettle and an assortment of teas. There was a carafe with filtered water as well as milk in the fridge. No plastic cups or glasses here; instead, nice drinking glasses and coffee cups. Two comfortable robes as well as very nice bath amenities were waiting for us in a beautiful tiled bathroom. And what a nice perk to have heated floors in the bathroom! The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and there were nice plush towels in the bathroom. No scratchy sheets or skimpy towels here! There were coupons for breakfast which you could get at The Waiting Room, a few doors down. The selections for breakfast as well as coffee drinks were varied and very nice. We had breakfast there two days and my husband went there one afternoon to enjoy a glass of wine. He said it was very nice for a little afternoon break. I’d say staying at the Nicholson House is like staying with a good friend who welcomes you to her home and has a beautiful guest room ready for you. We were fortunate to meet Mollie who showed us a Luxury Queen room as well as a Superior King suite. Both were roomier than our Deluxe Queen room and the Superior King was especially nice. When we next visit Mendocino, we will reserve a Luxury Queen room for a little extra space. I would not hesitate to return to the Nicholson House~it’s a lovely place, very comfortable with plenty of special touches to welcome you. Another perk is that you can walk to the shops and restaurants in town~location is ideal!

The Nicholson House property is located in the beautiful town of Mendocino and a convenient walk to all the town has to offer. While the property is charming and well-kept, I had several issues with my stay and ultimately wished I'd stayed elsewhere. Because there are no staff on-property, you have the option of messaging via their online portal, calling via phone, or going next door to the cafe to speak with a staff member. I attempted all three of those methods without much assistance. I arrived to the property just before check-in and sent a message via the portal. The next morning after still no response, I went over to the cafe to inquire. The barista let me know the manager was out of town, and they too were having a hard time getting in touch with her. I then attempted to call the property (a total of three times) each time going to voicemail. Eventually my call was returned, however, the service I received was not satisfactory. I spent the entire night awake listening to a very loud family below me and could even hear my neighbor snoring through the wall (with ear plugs in). I requested a white-noise machine or another solution - an air purifier was provided to drown out the sound of screaming children and parents. Ultimately, if you appreciate responsive staff and quiet, peaceful accommodations, I would strongly recommend choosing a different property.

Nicholson House was absolutely perfect! Just a beautiful & luxurious stay. So so happy we found it. The complimentary breakfast was delicious - for two people you get a free premium breakfast item & a drink each. The location is lovely for a get away. If you are considering it just book it!

We were disappointed with our recent stay at Nicholson House. The "no contact" check-in process was very impersonal. For a bed and breakfast, we would have appreciated a bit more personal attention, especially for the rates being chared. Aslo, the "continental breakfast" was not very good. it was served at the public cafe next door to the inn, and was below what we expeced for a B&B, especially one affiliated with a leading restaurant. Our room, #9, was a basement room, with a view fo a public walkway. We had to keep the shades drawn for privacy. We will not be making a return visit here.

The Spa View Suite was a charming home base for my mom, sister, and I. The three of us were comfortable in the room, which had once of the best beds I have ever slept in, luxurious sheets, incredible robes, and a huge bathroom with footed tub and giant steam shower. Our deck was a lovely spot for enjoying delicious breakfast pastries from the Waiting Room and pre-dinner cocktails. On cooler evenings, sitting inside sipping cocktails from green glass coupes by the fire stove elevated our experience. While the whole village is nearby, having the Brickery's truly excellent pizza nearby was a big location bonus.
