La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Carlsbad Legoland Area

DO NOT, I repeat, do not stay here, our reservation was booked incorrectly at la Quinta and from the moment I drove up I knew it was not the hotel I had booked, I asked the lady at the desk which reservation company I had booked through and she said it was a 3rd party (Priceline), which was totally where I made the error. Nevertheless, I explained to the young lady I booked over the phone and this was not the correct hotel and she said “well, then stay somewhere else, you don’t have to stay here.” I assumed by that comment she would release our reservation and she said, “no, sorry, I need 24 hours to cancel, you will be charged for the room.” Needless to say I was infuriated, as I stood there trying to ask her to cancel the reservation, a Carlsbad police officer walked in and showed his badge, he told her and the other gentleman behind the counter he had to do a room search. I immediately told her I felt unsafe, she asked “you feel unsafe”, then leave”! What is going on? It’s sketchy there, do not stay! I drove home, rather than stay there, rude and unprofessional, do not stay there.

Carpet had huge rips in several places. Dresser was tilted so far forward that drawers fell open on their own. Sheets and mattresses were stained. Sink was chipped (hole plugged from the bottom). Caulk clearly covered mold. Shower head was incredibly low. Breakfast was a major disappointment. This was a terrible experience, and has me not wanting to ever stay at a La Quinta again.

La Quinta was there for us when our daughter and her cat needed to evacuate because of the fires in LA. Pamela at the front desk was so responsive and helped us extend her stay twice. The room was perfect because our daughter could prepare some of her meals and having the breakfast included was a real bonus. Thank you all for being there for our daughter in a very stressful time!

We were pleasantly surprised by the layout of the family room we booked! It felt like two separate rooms: one with a king-size bed and another extension with double-decker beds, which my kids absolutely loved. The two spacious bathrooms were a huge bonus for a family. The bathroom cleanliness needs attention though. Considering the price, we didn’t expect reliable Wi-Fi in the room and free parking, but both were provided, which was a great value. The American breakfast might seem basic, but it had everything we needed to start the day. The location is strategically situated at the middle of the major attractions for kids and few minutes away from the major retail outlet in Carlsbad. The staff were nice and welcoming, making our stay smooth and hassle-free. Overall, a fantastic experience and highly recommended for families!

Some aspects of the room show wear & tear (e.g., crack in sink). Wish TV had closed captioning available. Fwy noise is obvious, and has a sort of a consistent white noise effect. Breakfast was yummy & filling. Staff were respectful, kind & courteous.
