Hotel is about 1.5 miles from Mill Ave. downtown. 10-minute walk to a fairly frequent bus to / from downtown, avoids parking hassles and allows you to imbibe without worrying. There's a variety of fast food, casual dining and convenience stores within easy walking distance. I did see a few people hanging out in the parking lot of the adjacent Circle K, but this was about on a par with my experiences in other cities. Check in staff was friendly. My room was clean, that's about all I expect from a Motel 6. Mattress was slightly soft but tolerable. There are nicer hotels near ASU and downtown Tempe, but they are significantly more expensive. This was a decent place to sleep after a long day of sightseeing and visiting.

I am the former Editor-in-Chief of many local magazines in the Phoenix area and I am writing an article about my experience with Motel 6. I recently had an incident at my home and had to spend 10 days in a hotel/motel that I could afford and be reimbursed by my insurance company. I needed two rooms so this Motel 6 was the only location that I could manage financially. My first night in room 116, at 1ish am, I came back to the room after a long day dealing with my house. When I opened the door I was shocked. Apparently the room above me had some sort of a water leak and there was about an inch of water all over the floor of my room. It looked like it was raining. I did my best to put bowls and anything else I had under the water to minimize damage when I noticed the water was hitting the shelf I had my laptop, camera and lights. They had all been ruined. I went to the office who, at first, wanted to charge me to move rooms. Within 10 minutes they called my room and said they made a mistake and gave me a new room. I took all my belongings to the front office and showed them the water damage and showed them (management) the videos of the water falling from the ceiling. It took me hours to move my things to the new room. I called the corporate number and they offered me a credit for one night ($65) and if course I accepted. I gave them all the same info and was told to wait 5 days for a resolution. Today was 10 days. I was told today that they compensated me with the free room and considered this case closed and that any further issues should be dealt with at the location!!! I remained at that location for the next 7 days with two rooms. I spent a lot of money with them and they have no intention of covering my losses. I am calling management again today and will update this post accordingly.

Upon Check in, unbeknownst to me, I was given the wrong room. How is that my fault? The situation was completely mishandled by Motel 6 staff the next morning. Rather than knocking on my door to apologize for their mistake and change my room, they took my stuff when I was at breakfast! I left the property in the morning to get breakfast and when I returned, all of my personal items were removed from my room, except for my pizza and sprite. I thought I had been possibly ROBBED!?! When I went to the front desk to ask them to help me investigate and get my belongings, I was accused of not being in the correct room, like I'm a homeless person squatting on their property. How was this my fault if the MOTEL 6 staff are the ones that checked me in and gave me the key? Obviously, it was a confusing to me, especially when all of my belongings were gone. I went to the front desk to ask if anyone had been in my room and told them all my stuff was gone and they told me they did not have it and belittled and mocked me, provoking me to threaten to call the police. I went outside to look around for my stuff and the man in the red motel 6 shirt, (maybe he was the house keeper,?) told me they had it after the front desk said they did not. This was completely unprofessional and disheartening. I am still in disbelief that this could even happen. After they returned my stuff, I retuned to my room and rather then an apology, I got the police called on me and was trespassed off the property after the first night because of the confusion over the front desk's mistake. The police were very helpful and agreed that I was not trespassing. I showed them my receipt and they let me go. I should sue Motel 6? any lawyers out there? My stuff had been gone though and messed up! It's so severely creepy. I feel violated. The front desk staff checked me in for two nights on October 6, gave me the key to the room, and stole my belongings the next morning. I was a registered guest and I have the receipt! I can not believe you treat your guests that way. The front desk was hostile, unhelpful, unprofessional and did not treat me like a guest. I want my money back! I had to find another place to stay and spend more money on uber to get there. The place I went to treated me respectfully and even had breakfast and no one took my stuff or treated me unfairly. BEWARE do not go to this MOTEL 6, in fact just avoid this crummy hotel chain, they hire people that are irrational and try to cover up their mistakes by treating their guests poorly. My mom and I needed a place to stay because we were on our way to Tucson, AZ for a doctor's appointment. This Motel 6 is too old but you really can't beat the price. I was very disappointed because I called a few days before my stay to see if I can get a non-smoking room ground floor but when I got there, Chase (the front desk representative) who was really nice and honest told me that there were no non-smoking room on the first floor. I was pretty disappointed but when my mom and I got there he showed us a room on the first floor Room 117 and boom, it was smoking badly and so therefore we were on the second floor, 208. To me, I have stayed at Motel 6's before those seemed really nice but this one seemed kind of ghetto which I was not happy about. The Parking Lot was pretty full and we really had trouble finding a spot to park. Tbh there was a Doubletree by Hilton and a Fairfield Inn by Marriott next store. Probably won't come back and stay at this motel anymore until it gets renovated.
