I don't know where to start but I will give it 3 stars instead of 2 because I was able to get some much needed sleep. Admittedly our visit was to capture a special event - the 60th Anniversary of the Selma Jubilee so I expected a surcharge of higher rates but more than double the regular rate? The Baymont is functional but it is dated and while I understand the need to charge more, customers do expect value for their investment. The Baymont is more of a cross between a motel and a hotel. It is more of the low budget model. Nothing fancy but enough to get the job done. The one bit of good news is the bed did allow for peaceful sleep. The breakfast was adequate and the staff managing it was excellent. Her name was Audrey and as a Selma native that was another plus. Now one other sore spot and this goes to the Baymont as well as Expedia, who doesn't like taking blame for anything…..even though I used their site to find the Baymont in the first place. My plans were fluid so I did not want to take advantage of the pay now option. Instead I opted for the pay at time of check-in. Only problem is starting on the fourth day BEFORE my reservation they attempted to charge my card for the full amount. Sadly, once I did check in, I was informed by reservation was canceled. Anyway, we were able to grab a room at a little more than I had reserved. What type of sham operation is this? Given the special event and Selma being remote, we went along to take what we could. The hotel is easy to locate, there is plenty of parking. My issue was the cost and quality. Overall adequate but the rooms could use some basic upgrading such as providing a chair for the desk or having more electrical outlets or a TV that works. Based on my experience I am one and done.

We had a reservation and arrived at 5PM. The doors were locked to lobby. I checked both doors and finally I saw someone sitting on couch eating, who let me in and told the staff behind the desk someone was there and then went back to eating. I don't think he worked there but was just visiting the staff. The staff was rude and didn't apologize for the doors being locked or say anything at all except when handing me the key asked if I needed anything else and was very short when I asked for wifi info. I wish the interactions ended there but once we entered our room, we realized our fire alarm was beeping. We tried calling on the phone but eventually had to walk downstairs to be told to "unplug it." Umm okay!! The alarm was hard wired but has a battery back up and when unplugged it still beeped. Tried calling again, but of course had to go back downstairs. This time my husband had alarm in hand and showed the staff that the alarm had a secondary battery that was missing. They said there was nothing they could do and took the alarm. Now we are in a room without a fire alarm but we were so tired, we decided not to deal with it. Wish I could say that we were able to sleep but the toilet was broken and was running all night, the fridge made a loud roaring noise so we decided the only thing we could do was turn on TV and hope it would block some of the sounds. Turned on TV to find out the screen was cracked. The lady in the morning seemed to be apologetic but was she really?? I didn't even bother to see what was offered for their free breakfast. Most ironic part was we get several text messages saying let us know of you need anything but they never responded. Go to Montgomery instead of staying here is my advice.

There are limited options for hotels in Selma and I've stayed at several. I was impressed with this hotel. They have a friendly and helpful staff, the rooms are large, well maintained and clean. The hotel is quiet and near several great restaurants.

Horribly dirty. Don't recommend at all. Staff was nice. Bed sagged, dirty towels, floor and furniture. Hotel didn't look like pictures at all. The pics showed an orange building and this was gray. Outside looked okay but inside was dismal. We were shocked this was a Wyndham hotel

We didn't have a reservation and the hotel rep tried really hard to accommodate us. She was helpful and we finally secured a room. However the room was really in poor shape. Beds were clean but nothing worked. A/C was intermittent, TV kept going off, bathroom toilet not secured to the floor, no filter holders were available anywhere for the coffee maker. Breakfast the next am was bare minimum. No one available to check us outside we left the cards and left. So sorry about this accommodation as this is a historic town. Will not return.
