This is one of the most unsafe places I have ever stayed. They had all types of drug activities going on in the back. I told a young blonde hair women about how we did not feel safe and how our room had roaches in it. She seemed not to care and wasn't trying to issue us a refund. Even after we showed pictures. I spoke with one person who says she goes there often because of the low rates but the rooms are always a mess and you have to make sure your car is locked because people break into cars. She told me the reviews on the website are put in by the staff and not actual guest what a shame! The pictures don't show the real condition of this property.

Please excuse my ignorance as i write my first ever review of a Motel 6. BTW, all the stereotypes and horror stories are true. Here’s my experience, which was the result of an impromptu camping trip requiring a 48 hour lodging prior to departure for the campsite. The Motel 6 page on Expedia showed great photos, great reviews, and instilled some confidence in my decision to book this property in affluent “Carlsbad”. “Super clean, safe, comfortable; great value 10/10” These online reviewers are all liars, and should be banned from writing reviews. Do not be fooled! The motel is located off Palomar Rd, right off the 5 Freeway, with easy access to mcdonald’s, premium outlets, costco, and other fun establishments. When booking, i specifically requested a ground floor room but was given something upstairs. The girls at the front desk were awesome changing my room to ground floor. The front desk staff was great, including the manager. A ground floor location is ideal as it is close to parking, and opposite the freeway, to curb any noise. The property itself appears clean, but at closer inspection is quite dingy, as if they’re unable to manage the onslaught of nonstop traffic, animal waste, and cigarette butts. There are all types of people here, from rich to poor and everything in-between. Smokers walk freely all over the motel, and whether you like it or not a cloud of smoke will somehow get into your room. My accommodation had a very unpleasant smell upon entry coupled with a blasting air conditioner set at subzero. It was cold as a freezer inside the room with an odor of what was clearly inappropriate cleaning chemicals being used for the space, far too abrasive and harsh for use in lodging. Despite my room being a non-smoking room, my comforter had cigarette burns throughout. Whoever runs housekeeping does not know how to segregate the linens from the smoking rooms and the non-smoking rooms. Cross contamination of linens has caused the room to smell of chemicals and cigarettes. My room has bare bones nothing. King bed w/ three short pillows (wrong size). A TV with a handful of unrecognizable channels, including CNN in spanish not english. News Nation was the source of national news, MTV, Logo, HSN, Sports, and that’s about it. Microwave and Refrigerator but no coffee maker, and an AC unit. The lighting was atrocious, and the bed lamps were not pleasant either. Everything was a harsh, stark white light that was completely unusable, no dimmers. We used the desk lamp turned against a wall to create a semi-faint glow. The sink was outside of the toilet, which dates the property. Every room around me was occupied. This property is full to the gills, and it appears like the backside of the hotel facing the 5 freeway is mostly for long-term occupants. Some doors were wide open, others had personal property spread out in front of their room, some rooms were filled with old ladies and cats. The rich kids clearly don’t want to be here as they leave their rooms in sunglasses and hoodies entering into their Audis, BMWs, Mercedes and Teslas. Nobody makes eye contact, they’re embarrassed to be seen. The motel has a pool, but it’s right in front of a bunch of rooms, just behind the main office. Terrible location, and honestly, it looked great but was a ghost town. My first hour was spent cleaning my room. Something had to be done about the harsh chemical smell. The floor was very filthy, it blackened my rags when i was wiping it down. The walls, surfaces, and doors were all mostly clean, but there was hair left in the toilet and shower, with visible excrement outside of the toilet seat. The towels are so cheap and thin, it’s insulting they only leave two, when you’ll clearly need at least three to dry yourself off if you’re a full grown man.

I arrived for check-in late at night to find a messy room, highlighted by a refrigerator filled with rotting food. The bathroom was also covered in hair, which was probably the most noticeable issue. When I asked the manager on duty for help, he gave me two options: get a refund and leave (even though it was late at night), or wait outside with my family while the housekeeper cleaned the room. The second option sounded ridiculous, but I actually considered it because the room was so dirty. However, my child was sick and crying in the bathroom, and another child was already asleep in bed. I told the manager that I wasn't going to make my family go outside at that time of night. He then asked if I wanted a refund and to leave. Again, I thought about it because of the situation, but I didn't want to do it because he said there were no other available rooms nearby. It's important to note that he was really rude the whole time we were talking. At that point, I started to get impatient and told him I wasn't going to do either of those options. I said we would stay in the messy room, and I was willing to clean everything except the refrigerator. We would even use our own blankets. However, I wanted them to make things right by giving us a discount on the room. I should have asked for a free room, but I was trying to work with the manager, even though he was being difficult. The manager got more aggressive when I started explaining how wrong the situation was. I asked to talk to his boss, but he said there was no one above him. I asked who he reported to, and he said nobody. That's when he really started to get aggressive and yelled at me, calling me mean and saying he would kick my family out onto the street in one minute if I didn't leave the lobby. Confused, I asked him why he thought I was mean. He said I was rude for asking to talk to his boss, and he told me to leave (while doing a countdown) or he would do what he said. Around 15 minutes later, the daytime manager, who apparently also serves as the nighttime manager's supervisor, came to my room. I told him that I had doubted his existence. He chuckled and confirmed his true managerial role. He expressed apologies for the nighttime manager's conduct and assured me that he couldn't evict us at that late hour. He presented an alternative solution: waking up his weary cleaner to tidy the room while my family waited outside. I explained to him that neither of these options was feasible, both for me and the underpaid staff member who would be called in at midnight. Once more, I stated that I would handle the major cleaning tasks so my family could rest, but I expected appropriate redress in the form of a refund or a substantial discount. The manager gave me his word that he would contact me the next morning to "rectify the situation" and "compensate me for the issues." However, two days have passed, and no call has been received. The absurdity of this establishment's proceedings persists, AND THIS IS WHY I HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO PEN THIS EXTENSIVE REVIEW. Oh, and just before we concluded our interaction, I requested some soap for our room, as none was provided upon our arrival. And here comes the revelation... "Motel 6 does not furnish soap in their rooms." Incredible. UPDATE: The hotel never contacted me, refused to return my attempts at contact, and they told booking.com that they refuse to offer a solution.

Clean. A new smell saturates the room, as well as Fabuloso! I love doing pushups, and noticed no dirt on my hands since housekeeping actually cleans the floors. German deli with great prices and HUGE servings is across the streets. It took me years of visiting this hotel before knowing that a restaurant was across the street.

The parking situation at the Motel 6 is awful. There’s not enough parking for the guest vehicles. I had to park on the farthest side of the building up against the doggy relief area in the way if a larger car had to make a turn. This is an absolute fire and emergency hazard because the 6 cars forced to park here are in the way of other vehicles that need to pull forward from their spot and we’re in the way of emergency vehicles that would need to get through if they were needed. Parking is taken up by at least 5 shipping containers just parked over 7 spots each. The room was just okay, but I knew that booking the room. The beds were not comfortable at all. We just stayed to sleep because neither I or my wife wanted to drive back to LA so late after being all all day in Oceanside. FYI, they only give you one parking pass for this lot. I even asked if I could pay for another because my wife drove down from Santa Barbara, but the person working the front desk had a terrible attitude and told me I couldn’t.
